that way <<<<<<

I hear of oiling pumpkins to change the color. Is oiling allowed for a GPC contest? Seems to me thats altering the color and would be unfair for example in the Howard Dill catagory. Is it legal in a GPC contest? I have a white giant now. Will oil make it orange or just shiney ?

The fact that growers from "North America" and "?" are the first 2 says it all.

What a shame that growers hide behind their posts.

Should someone get caught with oil on their AG and I have something to do with it they are band for life.

Of course I am not a GPC representative, I hope they agree with me.

Owen is correct - The rules explicitly state no "skin additives".

Oil it all you want after the contest, it will still orange up in time for Halloween if you care about that kind of thing.

Clean water and a soft cloth should be enough to make your pumpkin ready for the scale and any Howard Dill award judging...

---- why should it matter?
Oil helps keep the bugs off and away from it. What if I spray my patch and the pumpkins are uncovered once a month with for aphid control.
And make them nice and pretty- which brings more people to see them.
If it allowed then everyone can do it so there won't be an unfair advantage.
And oiling is negligible as far as adding weigh to the pumpkin.

What is an additive? I think water is an additive ... so is fertilizer of any kind... so is bleach ... so is suntan lotion (yes I know someone who put some on a pumpkin)… so is fungicide … so is dirt and dust … and so is anything else that touches it.

So Owen is correct … anyone caught with oil on their pumpkin will be band for life? … (and can I add I think they should have 666 tattooed onto their forehead) What does “band for life” mean exactly? That they have to join a band and go on tour for the rest of their life?
If I have anything to do with it … I think that if someone thinks that someone else should be “band for life” – then the person who said that should be “banned for life” for having not knowing how to spell and thinking that they are king of the world. LOL – just kidding. But seriously - lighten up – you can state your opinion and not be OTT about it.

Also- if someone wants to ask a question anonymously who cares? If you ask me Dagwood was just asking for a clarification of a CPG rule. (how aweful) btw: his pumpkin is white … so oil wouldn’t help it to win anything.

Of course I am not a GPC representative either- but I really really really hope they agree with me.

Just my 4 cents worth.

How did I miss this post. I tied the lifting rings for about 85% of the pumpkins at Roba Farms this past weekend. Sometimes the pumpkins slip a little as the weight balances out with no worries. But a lubed up pumpkin could create disaster. Anyways back to the cosmetic value- you won't get my HD vote if the pumpkin is enhanced with a forign substance.
