Ok this past "2004" grow season, My father Grew Big Max Pumpkin seeds ( had better luck then me) HA HA.. Anyhow one of his big max females was pollinated from 2 620 Boyton males out of my patch. The final result was a nice dark orange 50.5 Lb fruit.. I know I know nothing special but its now got some AG in it.. Myself and my father plan on growing one of these seeds again in one of our 3 patches this year and plan on crossing it YET again with another AG.. my plan is to cross it with an 781.5 Landry "04" male
( 1156 Larsen X 1301 Eaton )
Is there a change this Once Big Max Seed could Toss a large one this comeing 2005 or does it take year after year of crossing before you can get good results from an Big max pumpking seed being crossed with Ag's
I was just curious
thanks

Kyle Little can probably best answer your question because he has been making a Big Max x AG cross for the past couple of years. From what I understand, the result should be an oversized Big Max...nicely shaped and colored 200-300 pounder if all goes well. Nice carvers.

Ya over 500 lbs on something like 200 sqft plant. The 208 is what 33% big max? Dave you dont really have much chance at breaking any size records but you should be able to have 300 plus lb very nice looking pumpkin from it. I have some 208 Little X 869.5 Calai (869.5 was very orange and grew my 1125)

Mike/Kyle: So if I put in a bunch of those seeds in a field to be left open pollinated/intended for sale (not necessarily individually cared for and pruned like a competition plant), you think 200 sq. ft per plant would do it? How many sq. ft. for a pure Big Max? Frank

Unpruned and in decent soil and rain they would probably still get 800 sq ft each and set many 50 -300 lb pumpkins. Would be worhitting them with insectacide a couple times though. I have never really let a pure big max go wild and unpruned but assume they would grow large plants also.

I crossed my 208 with a 940 Mombert '00 this year and got (7) 100#-275# fruit off one plant, all dark orange with red tones...very nice! They'll sell great, carve pretty good, and look great in front of churches/businesses/homes. My wife sold all hers in a matter of days.

I grew Big Max seeds last ear and let the plant go unpruned and it took over most of the back yard and started goin out into the alley behind the house..lol. Got 1 real nice 94 pounder out of it and a 69 pounder as well, both nice dark orange. I got a bunch of seeds out of the 94 pounder and was toying with the idea myself of crossing it with an AG. By the way, If anyone wants some of the seeds, just Email me. I have a pic of the 94 pounder in my diary.

Front yard Ingo, front yard. I always grow my color seed in the yard when size is irrelevant.

Kyle, I have no front yard. In front of my house - well that´s where the big street is, just 10 feet from my front door...) I´m lucky I have some space in my backyard though...
