Is the 798.5 Calai the reverse cross of the 869.5 Calai, with the same plants used?
Is the 798.5 an inferior producer, or just less planted, than the 869.5? Do they produce similar looking fruits?
If they do produce significantly different results, maybe this shows an example of a good reason to make a reverse cross of a good(on paper) cross.

To answer the first question, yes.
I've grown offspring from both seed, a "cross of 2 reverse crosses"....

(414 Sharier x 350 Sadowski) =(869.5 Calai x 798.5 Calai) X (798.5 Calai x 869.5 Calai)
The 414 grew a tall fruit that resembled other 869.5 offspring, and the 350 grew a low and flat fruit, similar to appearance to the 842 and 1301 Eaton. The 350 produced the more colorful fruit.
Not sure if this info helps, but can't hurt!
