I have been graciously given one of each seed. Unfortunately, I have room for only one plant and was planning on selfing anyway to accentuate the heat-resistant portions of either of these 2 plants.

Knowing I live in Phoenix, the valley of the sun, what can anyone suggest from their own growing experiences with these 2 seeds?

I'd certainly grow the 731 Stucker here in our climate... gotta love its genetics for big and orange!
But considering the heat you get in summer the 950 Boyton should be the better choice for you.

I have had bad luck with the 731. I personally would choose the 950 and self it again.

Appalachian Mtns.

I grew the 731 in 2003. It was an aggressive plant, huge leaves, very tolerant to heat, bugs, and mildew. It also grew vibrant orange fruit.
I plan to grow it again someday, I was quite plesed with it.

good idea if you are willing to wast one of the seeds. I'd still do it! Maybe the 731 surprises you and you can keep it!

i enjoyed growing the 950.4 Boyton and recommend growing it.
the 731 has some nice color in the offspring, though.
tough call, not sure which seed would be harder to come by in the future, but if you must choose, i think 950.4, simply because it grew the 1036 Perez.
it IS now a proven seed. eg

Pal2....the 1036 was grown by the 600.5 Gregory, pollinated by the 950.4, right?

Thanks all! lots of good input but it seems more people have grownt the 950 than the 731 which should bring out a justified bias. Everyone seems to confirm what I have read that the 950 is an "easier" plant to grow. That makes me happy.

Personally, right now the color does not matter since I need to worry about heat and can cross later for color.

SORRY! SORRY! the 1032 Perez was the 950.4 X 790 Daletas!
my mistake, clearly! the 1036 was indeed 600.5 Gregory X 950.4 Boyton. sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused, to anyone other than myself, here, cowering in the corner now (cower-corner) lol-----thanks Southern! eric

hey, Hot-----follow your pumpkin heart---ever notice that sometimes a seed has several offspring around the 800-900
pound mark, and then ONE really huge one in the 1200-1300
pound range? well, maybe the 731's time has come!
okay, i re-read the other replies and the 950.4 is recommended more enthusiastically than the 731.
be sure to plant the 731 next year--
prob'ly makes pretty ones!!! maybe even big ones----eric

PS Its grown the 1032dmg, also 677 South African record, 667, 640 and others over 500.
