So you are growing an 898 Knauss this year and were wondering what would be the best seed to cross with it? Clearly the best cross SO FAR has been the 845 Bobier x 898 Knauss cross, producing the 1180 Daletas, the 1133 Demers, the 500 and 1068 Wallace which are all proven 1000+ producers the first year out. What else should be crossed with this seed which might even be better than the 845 cross...and why do you think so?

if I had an 898, I'd find a 1260 to cross with it.

The 898 has been crossed with the 1260. I am growing the 905 Ailts this year.

Monty, would be interesting to see the 905 with a 1260 x 898 backcross. Not sure this cross was made before.

This will be the year of ultimate backcrosses. I have secured both an 898 and a 1260 for this year as well. As such, I plan on making the 898 x 1260 and vice versa crosses. Lets hope the 1260 sets fruit this year.

I will also be planting multiple 905's and making a 905 x 898 as well as a 905 x 1260.

shannon you read my mind this is one of my planned crosses as i will be growing both the 898 and the 1097 so we shall see with some luck might just get a decent pumpkin!

hey you

Greencastle, PA

i would cross it with the 1156 Larsen. It's a great seed, it's easier to find than an 845 or 1097, and it's a cross that has not been made yet... look at all these 845/898 crosses, they're so cliche. lol. The 1156 will reign SUPREME!

I crossed the 898Knauss back into my 1074Beauchemin last year. It was only 200Sf. plant, late pollination. It produced my 500Beauchemin 13%heavy. I intend to put the 898 into my 500 this year. I will also cross the 898 into my
2003 503Beauchemin (898Knauss Remake)...Time will tell!

Russ did you mean to say the 1104 Hester?
The 1180 Daletas is the 898 X 846.

The 673 Kuhn, 1071.8 Houghton is the same 845 X 898 cross but hasn't been planted. Surprising about the Houghton too since it was 16% OTC.

I'm curious to see what the 711 Handy can do. (898 X 801) for orange lovers. I was bummed to see that the one that Ben has going is crawling along.

The 898 X 695 Handy is VERY tempting too. 723 Houghton & 1025 Mombert. With those genetics the fruit should weigh like a rock.

Joe - the 905 is still on my list for '05!

Hey Kilr are you growing your 809 in '05?

i like the 898 x 695 and vice versa....just something about that 695 handy. 1097 beachy x 695 is a cross i would like, especially if the 1097 fruit didnt split.

Cross the 1420 larue back into the 898. That might be interesting.
