Has this cross been done, 898 Knauss x 914 Wentzell(and reverse). That cross sounds pretty good to me.

The 914 had two male pollinators so the genetic tree wont be clean

it's a tossup with the 914. i grew it once and got a light one. if you're lucky to get one with the traits of the 1048, it might be worth it.

I have to agree with Andy's and David's comments. Not only is the 914 a toss up but the whole family tree of the 898. I have to admit I jumped on the 898 bandwagon last year without studing the family tree. Just a casual glance at the 898 genetic back ground spells "crap shoot". It has produced some nice over the chart pumpkins but has also produced some mediocre fruit to. I have to admit I don't understand the Hype behind the 898. I am even reluctant to plant my 1101dmg because of it. My $.02 Jim

What do you think of the 753 Pappas(898 selfed)? Over 30% heavy. Now that could be a great parent seed.

1156 Larsen... 898 x 1062 Rivard. The 1062 is a selfed 914. The 1156 was extremely heavy OTC, and produced the 1019 Chambers. I'm not a big fan of the 898 either, but I do like the 1156.
