I am growing the 1142 van Kooten this year (1066 Vezzolo X 1367.5 Rose.) and my buddy Steve is growing the 958 van Kooten (1066 Vezzolo X 1367.5 Rose.).....yes both fruit were grown on the same plant.

My question is, I plan on pollinating my 1142 females with my buddies 958 males, is it considered to be sibbed, selfed or crossed? Now I know that it is not selfed so my guess is that it would be considered sibbed....what is the case here?

Thanks/Glenn

Crossed....there is a name for this

Sibbed is 1142 x 1142 having to seperate plants
Selfed is 1142 x 1142 using the same plant

hey you

Greencastle, PA

if the 1142 and 958 both had the same male and female parent plants i would think that it's more of a sibbed cross because the seeds have the same possible genetic combonations.... technically i guess it would be a cross because they're different fruit, but it seems like more of a gray area.

i would have to say crossed.
furthermore what would we call it if the two fruit were the same weight? ohhh, boy!
yeah, crossed. sib and self have to be from the same seed
stock.....in spite of the fact that they are from the same plant and have the same cross, they are not the same seed stock. crossed, mho. eric

Sounds like a West Virginia wedding. But it would be a cross. Looks a little bit like some of inbreeding Lloyd did to end up with the 935. I'm going to put a different spin on it by crossing the 1033 Emmons with the 1074 Calai just to see what can come from that mix.

That is a Lloyd / Bobier strain cross and should do really well if you like white, huge, heavy and ugly!

1066 Vezzolo = 845 Bobier X Self
1367.5 Rose = 723 Bobier X 845 Bobier

I think Tremor might be the rightest!! I will settle for the first 3/4-ton pumpkin and I don't care if it is white, yellow, orange or ugly as long as it is huge and heavy! Thanks Ceis, that is what I will go for!!

LOL. My oldest friend moved to Mississippi when he was about 13. His dad got him his drivers license at the local general store. If this wasn't odd enough, the same shop-keeper also had "sheep straps" for sale....Baaah LOL
