We may have several pollen donors of the pumpkin type, possible choices are 723 Bobier, 845 Bobier, 827 garrell, 1097 Beachy, 898 Knauss, 1016 Daletas, 1230 daletas, 727 Pierce. Input appreciated.

900.4 Lyons is a Crossroads of orange and green, I like the background and prodigny of the 898 Knauss as a cross (Male). can I have a seed from it to cross into its 4th removed selfed cousin the 823*?

Dave: As you know you are as likely to get orange as green from the Lyons. I'd like to see something to reinforce the green genes, like 900 x one of Gerry's ...834 or the 823. Anybody in your vicinity growing one of those you could get pollen from?
If not, then any of the above all-star cast would be good, but I'd lean toward 898 and breed for thick walls rather than color.

OK....Time to play devils advocate here. What would we think of the seeds that came from a green squash producing seed like the 552 Sherwood ot an 834 Gadberry thst was pollinated by a 900 Lyons....that had thrown orange fruit? Would polen from a green bearing plant yield seeds more likely to produce all green progeny? How do we know?

Yep, the 900 Lyons is a sneaky little bugger when it comes to color. What ever color is goes it will be solid, No Squapkins. I would try to breed in something with a Thicker Blossom end as I've noticed the 900 lyons offspring tend to have thin blossom ends. (alot of 895 hesters went down to due to cracked blossom ends, my own 171 last year was pretty thin on the blossem end also which is a second generation 900lyon x sib )

Tremeor , it again would be a toss up orange/green due to the genetic tumble however since the 834* was selfed and allways throws deep green I would say that on the female side of the 834*/900 Lyons cross the offspring would probably throw green, on the 900 side female with a 552 or 834* I would say if the 900 female was orange its off spring will be orange. Just my theory but again I will self or sib the 823* (834* X self) and cross another with a known orange producer either my 410 or the 1048 companion just to prove this very theory. (I think).... P.S the plants are running strong now, weather has been very cool and wet.
