Hello to all,
This is my first year, and things have been interesting - it is a learning experience - but I just took 1st place at the county fair with a A G cross, and it was only the 2nd biggest one in the garden - we couldn't lift the really BIG one. If it keeps growing we'll put it in the state fair in late Sept.

Remove the seeds from the pumpkin and wash well with water
then place them out on a sheet of wood or pan or wax paper or anything of that sort and let them dry turning them over every day for about a week then they should be good and dry.

I'd add 5% bleach to the rinse water. Used window screens (still in frames) are good drying racks. When dealing with large amounts of seeds a fan & dehumidifer are helpful to keep drier aire circulating between spaced/stacked screens.

additionally, with your winnings, buy a food dehydrator.
the one i got was from a Wal-Mart for about forty bucks,
"American Harvest" i THINK it was called...
best 40 bucks i ever spent! on the lowest setting it
warms and dries the seeds at about 95 degrees, and in about FOUR days tops, you are ready to put them into a big glass jar to look at and wonder what they will produce next year!
PS--on mine, i had to make circular screens out of fiberglass window screen to keep the smaller seeds from falling through the larger gaps in the trays (circular),
but it is worth EVERY penny and every moment of toil. eric
