Hey guys...i was wondering if there has been a 1000 lber grown from a second generation selfed seed? My 882 armstrong is not exactly a second generation selfed seed, but its darn close. The 882 seed itself was 735 pukos x self and 869 calai. My fruit however looks more like an 876 Lloyd than anything else (male pollinator to the 846 calai). I thought this seed would produce a round very orange fruit, but i got a tall, wide, wheel...once very white fruit that has recently become salmon in color with various green spots. My thinking is i got a 735 x self seed out of the multiple pollinators. The 882 was crossed with one 869 calai male first then two 735 males were used. So, i knew that i could end up with anything....

anyone know if there has been a 1000 lber from a second generation selfed seed?

thanks
casey

I believe the 1056.5 Ruff fits the bill and then some. The 1056.5 is a 748.8 Ruff x self. The 748.8 is an 833.8 Ruff x self. The 833.8 is an 801 Black x self. The 801 Black grew my 833 last year.

There's a seed out there that has been selfed at least 5-6 times also. Not sure what it has grown though, if anything.....

here's my loose description of the life of a seed:
some of my wording is questionable but of good intent, lol.
MIGHT that be the 706.5 Willemse?
uhhh, difficult to remember the information from page to page, but the 674.5 Waterman '90 was selfed, then, long story short spanning about 9 years, was selfed in '91 in the 573 McCahill, resulting in the 724 Willemse in 1993,
(selfed), which resulted in the 706.5 Willemse '99 (selfed),
which, when planted in 2000 resulted in the 962 Willemse, which is also selfed and the result of planting that was the 834.5 Willemse '01, which is,
you guessed it: SELFED 706.5! COULD be a downward trend from there on, who knows?
hmmm. i've got the 962....
so i've wondered if there is a certain number of times a seed must or should or can be self-pollinated at which the seed becomes a monster-maker. to me, 1056.5 and 962 are monsters, each from seeds that were selfed and selfed and selfed and.................................eric

Many growers thought the same just a few years ago in the 935-97. Bill Bobier did his home work and found the 935 Lloyd to be a prodigious female. 53 in its female line have exceeded 1,000 pounds. All this from what is a selfed and then sibbed seed.

some growers think that inbreeding increases wall thickness. I am not opposed by that notion. Look how many 723 x 845 and 845 x 723 crosses have done so well...thats basically a sib cross.

582.5 Cramer 02 947 Doornward X Self 947 Doornward 846 Calai X self. My apologies for misspellings, I'm just going off memory here. I don't know of any offspring, but that's the only 846 X Self times two I can think of.
