Please can anyone help? Does anone know whether the seeds of a pumpkin will become ripe even if the pumpkin doesnt get any sunlight. Help would be appreciated thanks, beanman

How old was the pumpkin is the real question, on average a pumpkin needs 50 days after pollination to get mature seeds. This number can be effected by when the pumpkin is pollinated. They seem to mature faster in the fall.

I've found that not all of the seeds will be mature in 50 days. However, 50 days is the minimum time needed to get some mature seeds.

40 days consistantly work for me. Of course this is in a climate where pumpkins mature more quickly than about anywhere else. Also, this is with a mature seed percentage of about 80%. Just my experiences, BF

BF....our growing season is several weeks longer than yours since our night temps are usually in the 50°'s. August 21st is the earliest we get some good seeds. By Sept. 1st, however, most pumpkins have good seeds.

what would cause a pumpkin that is 80 day's old to have nothing but little transparent sac's no good seed's at all

It's called "The Curse of the Atlantic Giant"! Sometimes there just ain't no seeds in them "babys"! I had one this year as well!

"The Curse of the Atlantic Giant".......yep, thats what it is...... I've had it once or twice.
At least now I know what to call it if I ever get it again !
