I have decided to try and grow a giant squash next year. Well I have some seeds from Dans 897*lb NY state record. It was crossed with 992 bobier. What are the chances of the seeds growing a green squash? If it grows a pumpkin should it be crossed with a squash to get a squash with Bobier genetics? I have asked a few people but would like to hear what others have to say also. thank you very much for your time.

Green color seems to be recessive. Therefor, if the Bobier fruit is heterozygous, you have a 50/50 chance of getting a green fruit. If the Bobier fruit is homozygous, you have a zero % chance of growing a squash. (as far as I know and assuming no multiple alleles).

Devan...Squash x pkn will usually yield pumpkin the next generation....but certainly not always. If you self it you'll get a better shot at green the next year. If you pollinate it with a squash you'll get an even better chance at green the next year. They don't really follow the typical punnet rules...especially that rogue 900lyons line from which the mcKie comes from....G
