1354 X 1469
aNddd,,,
1469 X 1354
((do em' both! if yA have em!))
and... maybe "self" the second females as they show up...
((good to have some shock-absorbers along fer the ride!
Gives ya four different possibilities on two plants aye!
didja' get your patch-spot to grow em next year? how did that go?...two plants is a wicked good way to start out on yer first year! Go for it!

As a first year grower I would say whatever you do is great just do it. On the other hand as a first year grower in a new patch I would say don't grow both of them because they are so related if that "gene pool" doesn't like something about your patch then you are out of luck with all your plants. I would recommend different gene-pool plants to anyone in the first year. Look around to the growers iin your area that have been successful and see what they grow...use one of thiers in addition to the 1469. Understand this...and this is VERY important....a grower WANTS to see his seed grown and WANTS to see it do well..so much so he's usually willing to HELP and ADVISE you along the way. THATS what you should be doing...in my humble opinion.............G

I think you might want to hold on to them for a year or two. After you've gained a year or two of growing experience and have your soil where it needs to be, then plant them. There are tons of good seeds out there to cut your teeth on, but there aren't that many 1354's. We know the 1354 has WR growing ability, holding it for a year or two won't hurt that. I know this is the last thing you'd want to do but I think it would be the wisest.

I agree with the previous post. A great many seeds available for free have potential for 1000+, don't use a rare one your first year.

If you can afford 'em, plant 'em.
There'll be thousands of new hot seeds next year
You can buy some of those

If, however you lucked onto top seeds
and won't likely afford them again,
a year of practice would be wise.

. . .you should start practicing germinating.

Its like having a scuba tank & regulator-- if you got ponds or lakes than great fun !! but if ya really want to see something you need ochean,, preferably pacific, & out aT islands !! you may catch over 50 lobster in a day, well thats not legal (but) perhapes easyly hundreds pounds fish,, some tasty scollips-- and a few 38 inch (claw to claw) crabs all in a few houres,, but you cant do that in a lake! now can you ??? ,,,WORK ON YOUR PATCH IF YOU WANT BIG PUMPKINS !!!!!!!!!!!

I'm going to buck this trend & suggest growing at least the 1469. Why?

> No or low soil pathogens.
> Could get real lucky.
> Could circumvent luck by paying attention here.
> The 1469 has never been grown & could be a dud (unless Larry grows it)
> If you grow a big one you will have no trouble getting more seeds.

Grow them well!

Also, as long as you trade with 25-50 top growers each year you'll have dozens of good seeds and some champs, free and piling themselves in each year. Grow what you have, then worry about getting more. AleX Noel.

1354 X 1469 I wouldn't make that cross, and here's why
The 1354 obviously has the potential to throw world records, it throws light, at mammoth size, or at least it did. The 1469 was light so. I would have a tendancy to grow the 1354 and cross it with a 1068 Wallace, or the 709 McCallum.
The 1469, I would cross with the 1420 Larue.

12/11/2005 12:18:41 PM

hey you

Greencastle, PA

the 1469 is a 1354 x 1104 Hester... the 1104 might get some heavy genes in there. I agree with Eddy though, the 1420 would be a great pollinator for the 1469.

there is no greater motivation in the patch than knowing that the plants you are growing have the CAPABILITY of producing a world record. a year is a long time to save up your pennies to buy more seeds. EVERYONE will have these seeds for a long time to come. i remember when the 1260.4 was SUCHHHHHH a raaaare seed and there wouldn't be any available to anyone except the TOP growers...we're still buying them up on the auctios to this day...what's it been,
coming up on like 4 years already (1469-05, 1446-04,
1385-03, 1337.6-02, 1262/1260.4 in '01?)I think that's right...plant your seeds...!...do your best,
and your crosses sound great---YOUR 'pal2>>>>eric

the 1068 would be a great cross, and I think you will see that cross done next year along with the 1370 Rose, but I think you know what I would cross it with Eddy, the 1260 Weir,LOL. We need to get some weight put on that world record seed.
