I did this cross this year and grew a 699lb Thicked skined cantaloping Heavy walled pumpkin. If it wasnt for the heavy cantaloping this pumpkin had it would have had a awesome orange color. From the pictures I have seen I could probably say this about these cantaloping pumpkins grown off the 1260 Weir aswell, the 1217 Baily,774 Tanner(Still my favorite looking pumpkin), 903 Sherrwood just to name a few off the top of my head. Although I have seen a few nice orange pumpkins grown from the 1260 Weir, the 851 Davies04',641 Wells 04', and the 502 Peters '03.' But most of the pumpkins I have seen grown from the 1260 Weir has this uglyness to them so to speak.

Any predictions on this cross I did and what it will grow? Think it will hold the 1370 progenys brilliant smooth orange color?
Or do you think I might have crossed this heavy cantaloping back into its future progeny? The 1260 and the 1370 Rose pictures that I have seen didnt have this brilliant orange color to them, then all of a sudden the 1370 Rose produces awesome huge orange pumpkins everwhere!
Im hoping i didnt cross the orange back out of the 1370 to look like its mother again,or if thts even possable? Is it? But i dont think I can cross the monster genetics this 699 Bosworth will have.(Just a little plug for myself, lol).

What you guys think?

One would think maybe a little less like the 1370 but a little more like the 1260. Get about a dozen people to grow it next year and find out.

Well at the very least it sounds like a nice cross. Grow it and pollinate it with something orange.... youll then have what your loooking for in 07! Hey how about pollinating it with 781.5 Frantz.... that will put some orange in her.

Again thats a nice cross u did, I bet it has huge but mostly ugly potential. Well but I like cantalouping...LOL

Mike, I seen that pumpkin on the front cover of the pumpkinsupply.com order booklet. My wife usually dont talk about pumpkins much(she just likes stepping on them) because I think she gets sick of hearing me talk about them, but anyway, she was looking at the order book on the way home from the post office and said WHOAAAA!! now thats the kind of pumpkin I want, look how orange that is, Why dont you grow ,,,,,,,, bla ,bla bla, bla,"I then put up the Talk To The Hand Gesture" she then stopped talking for a brief milasecond, I then looked down to see what pumpkin she was talking about and it was your 781.HA!
Then of course my wife continues to talk just like Charlie Browns Teacher the rest of the way home. bla, bla, bla, bla,

All kidding aside Mike, and dont let this get to your head because I know your not a bragger or anything*cough*,LOL,

But that is one of the Nicest orange pumpkins that I have seen, that is a god honest beautiful pumpkin.

Brooks,
I've wondered about that cross as well. I guess it depends on how the genes are shuffled. Did your 1370 Rose produce any fruit to go by? The 1370 can vary in color some as well. It's an interesting cross. Hopefully some progeny will be grown next year. Are you growing any of your own crosses next year?

I culled a 40 lber that I crossed with the 1260 Weir for a 1 lb (6 lobe) pumpkin that was 12 feet further out on the main which later ended any chances for me with this 1370 plant. What a huge mistake that was culling that 40 lb pumpkin on July 20th for a One lb (6 lobe) pumpkin I pollinated around July 14th that later aborted on me around July 22. There was then no other females in sight to pollinate untill Aug 2. I had people emailing me left and right saying WTF are you doing!?!.,Why did you cull that 40lber that you crossed with the 1260 Weir??!!. I really didnt have any answer for them, I didnt know why I culled that first 40lber before I was positive the one I kept was growing good. All I could do now was push these late Aug pollination pumpkins now. Dick Wallace mentioned to me to push these pumpkins and put hammer down, and i did.I had nothing to lose at this point. Here is a picture of the pumpkin that I pollinated on the 2nd of aug.

The other pumpkin I had left growing on this plant was a brilliant orange that I used for my porch pumpkin,This pumpkin stopped growing middle of October right when we started getting real cold nights and warm days, It didnt have a chance to grow.Ill post pictures of it in my diary. This 1370 Rose plant was a real healthy plant that didnt have any desease problems at all,it didnt have any PM like my other plants had at the end of the season.

This is a lesson i will never forget, lol

Hey Bill! I think the 1370 Rose would be a great cross or that 670 Diagle would be a excellent cross also!
