gene mcmullen from here in illinois grew his 1032 last year from the 1253. if germination goes well, a 1253 is going in my patch this year cuz his pumpkin was a great shape (tall and round), i think 9% heavy, and a very nice orange color. gene selfed the 1253 so when the seed count on actual 1253 seeds run low, you might consider the 1032 mcmullen 2005.

That would probably make it LIGHT to the chart, and prone to Dill Rings. If you count out all the possible problems with the fruit though, that might be a nice cross. I'd say find another seed to cross it with (a good/fair color, and heavy OTC seed), or self it. AleX Noel.

i dont know what to with my 1469s. alex what do you mean light to the chart?

Light to the chart means that the fruit was estimated (on the estimation chart) at a weight, say 1000 lb., and actually weighed less than the estimate, say 900 lb. The 1469 had a huge Dill Ring, and was EST. at close to 1800 lb. It's never a sure thing, but this seems like a characteristic that sticks out. AleX Noel.

Just because the parent was light to the chart does that mean the offspring will also be light???? What of the genes added by the male give it thick walls?? I think ill make this question a new post

How can a 1469 be light to the chart when there are no known wieghts at that size or bigger to compare it to? Seems to me the 1469 IS the chart now....until such time as someone gets another few fruits up that big we don't know anything.............

g ... i see your point but come one... you know that it is light for it's size... even to the 2010 chart.
but as I implied in my other post that doesn't mean it is a poor seed choice.

Yeah ok Tanner...like when you refused to budge from your clain that the bottom of a pkn squash is 50% of the fruit a few years ago in our "discussion" on squash and color.

Sorry if I caught you in your fib... it was a great point - and I know you just over playing it for extra emphasis...

re: that particular color issue...
get over it ... don't cry over spilled milk.
if you want to start bring up the past and draging people through the dirt... I bet I could find some real good stuff on you.

The pollinator is used to introduce genes (traits) that are not prersent in most of the current offspring, or to amplify the desireable ones that are already there. AleX Noel.

Kinda reminds me of that great "Little Caesars" commercial from about 10 years ago..."Ahhh, the sounds of summer"
Ahhh, the sounds of winter...
