if you have the 1173 you really owe it to yourself to get it in the ground. as far as im concerned its one of the next hot seeds.

Pap, what...in your opinion would be the perfect pollinator for the 1173? Peace, Wayne

Maybe several possibilities would be easier? Thanks

Wayne: I bet Pap says 1068. Or 1253 Sperry. Or any of the SNGPG 2005 seeds you have there....

actually the 1173 already has enough 1068/500/898/845/genetics. id try and introduce something completely outside the present line.

something proven if possible yet not of the 898/845 genetics

No, i dont have an 1173. I wish i did. I certainly would put it on the possibility list. I was just wondering what its background was....it grew two big fruit.

If anyone wants to send me one, i would gladly take it. LOL

If it germinates I will possibly cross it with the 1233 Reiss, though that one is not proven yet.

Concerning the pollinator question: Fred Macari already crossed the 1173 with the 1068. See his `05 seeds. Looks really promising to me.

@frank:

Look for Mr. Orange here on bp.com. Perhaps Martin is already down to his personal stock. The 1233 has been very asked. Prob. one of the most asked unproven seeds ever? I guess after the 1260 Weir this was the second time in history it has been an advantage to live in Europe in order to achieve a certain high quality seed.

What color was this pumpkin? Does anyone have a picture?

The 1173- http://bigpumpkins.com/DisplayPhoto.asp?pid=3277
It grew the 1310 macari and 1110 macari.
The 1310- http://bigpumpkins.com/DisplayPhoto.asp?pid=4195
Not bright orange, but a nice salmon, and certainly big and heavy.

Would crossing the 1173 Marcari with the
1233.5 Reiss make sense for big and orange
or would selfing the 1173 be the way to go?

the gr8 pumpkin

Norton, MA

A 1233.5 would add some good color, the self would probably not be that much for color. Both would be great crosses. What I do when I can't decide is pollinate every other fruit with one (say the 1233.5), and the others with the other (say the self). Select your keeper based on the fruit growing rate and characteristics when it's time to cull. AleX Noel.
