Ok guys, here are the seeds I have left after my friends picked them over. I am looking for color, nice shape, lack of dill rings....anyway THE BEST CHOICE. You get the picture. If anyone has any pictures of these fruits I would appreciate it. I hope the descriptions are accurate, the seeds have been shrink wrapped and are in the freezer.
901.5 Kurilich 720 Parks x 790 Daletas
676 Kurilich 967 Kurilich x 766 Kurilich
967 Kurilich 1230 Daletas x 1076.5 Werner
802 Kurilich 1029 Kurilich x 766 Kurilich
1029 Kurilich 1076.5 Werner x 1230 Daletas
613 Kurilich 1016 Daletas x 845 Nesbitt
Gerry Cull 845 Bobier x 582 Hester
510.6 Gerry 845 Bobier x 1140 Stelts
250 Schnicker 1101 Northrup x 869.5 Calai.

I know the Calai is a bright round fruit, and the 802 Kurilich was very nice as well. Do I self any of these or cross some? Any help is great. Thanks again to the guys that donated the seeds to me.---Craig "herbie"

Herbie, (Craig)...don't have answer to your question as I am also fairly new at this...but my best $20 invested in the genetics...what do I grow...syndrome...was a membership in GVGO...which gave me access (limited) to the AGGC. Photos of most of the pumpkins your seeds came from are available there.(I would guess, as there are a bunch listed, I mean tons). Another possibility??...did any of these growers post a diary? Another?...do search for seed names??...don't know if it bring up pics or not!!! I would take a wild stab at it and say that 1029 & 250 would both produce nice, orange monsters!!!! "-] Peace, Wayne

Well, the 1029 has already grown that 802 that you say was orange, I'd grow that and the 250. How much space do you have? AleX Noel.

herbie---if i have not done so yet (CRS Syndrome, lol)
i will email you pictures of the Gerry fruits.
just so you know, everybody has their own opinions on seed storage, and no seed have i ever put in the freezer
and they always germinate just fine...i keep 'em in
1-gallon glass jars, all of them from other growers and
there are some TOP seeds in there. i'll send pics
soon----eric gerry---there are only two other growers
listed there---they should also have pics of their own fruit(s).......eric g again, lol---

What is the cross of the 766? Even not knowing that the 1029, 967 and 613 look like good canidates to me. I think you could cross those three about any way and not go wrong. How many plants are you gonna grow?

The garden is 60 x 60 and I am dedicating 28 x 60 to the giants. Gotta have my corn, peas, cukes, and watermelon otherwise i don't think it could be called gardening. Have a guy across town putting in a couple as well on a 30 x 60 plot and another 60 x 60 plot dedicated to jack o lantern production. Something about me and pumpkins, I just don't know. heh heh. KEEP REPLYING GUYS, love the info and the chat. I have a wife that is due to have a baby in two weeks so I am not allowed to go to the bar. Gotta stay home and let the other two kids torture me. Later.

Herbie:The 1029.5 is a good one. It will be planted in my patch this season. I saw the 802 1st hand and it was a very solid, round, heavy and orange fruit. Here's a picture of the 802, http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=43894
the 766 is is 515 kurilich x 1230 daletas the 515 is 901.5 kurilich x 1016 daletas. I think any of the Kurilich seeds have great potential for orange fruit. Steve

Don't know about the 766. One of my buddies walked off with that one when I had a seed lottery among friends. It is amazing how many friends you can get involved into giant pumpkin growing on a beer bet! If Joe Kurilich is watching this, he can give me some more info on it.

You should be able to squeeze 3 in your 28x60 and 3 more in your buddies 30x60 without much trouble. I'd plant the 1029, 967 and 613 in your patch, the 676 and 802 in your buddys patch and back cross the 1029 and 967 back into them or the opposite, cross the 967 into the 802 and the 1029 into the 676. I'd grow one of the other 4 in the last spot in your buddies patch and self it. But thats just me.

Thanks Pharmer. I probably won't go all Kurilich, I would like to try one of the Gerry's and the 250 Schnicker as well.

Herbie, prepare to kiss your veggies goodbye after this season. I vote for the 613 and the 250. The 250 is still hovering over my backup pile for this year. I'd like to see how it does. The 613 should be a good cross IMO, I'm a big fan of the 1230/1016 Delatas and the 845 Nesbitt produced my favorite seed of all time.

"for color, nice shape, lack of dill rings....anyway THE BEST CHOICE": 250, 1029, 967 and 613 - in this order, IMHO, of course.

thanks, herbie, at least SOMEONE would like to try my seeds,
lol! all i know is, the 728.5 Gerry from '01 (845 Bobier X 1140 Stelts) has made some nice ones such as the 735 Drake
(i think you'll be impressed with that fruit---it blew me
away that it came from one of MY seeds), the 713 Matto,
which had similar shape to the 735, and the 786.4 Catapano,
which was the largest fruit DimEnSionS-wise that Frank had
grown up until that point in time. the 510.6 is a re-make of the 728.5, because i have faith in it to spank-out some nice orange ones over the next decade for anyone who plants it....i see that some of the other seeds are already
making appearances in others' patches, and my seeds i sent you are fresh-off-the-vine, so to speeak, lol.
if i happened to have sent you any of my 501-'05
(1125 Frantz X 1097.5 Beachy), that one has potential
to create a monster and i believe it is a one of a kind cross thus far; see if you can get a couple of those back
and swap them for maybe one of each 510.6 and a cull(845 X 582) seed and consider planting the 501 or 510.6,
as far as your specification of nice color and
hopefully lack of any dill rings....the only serious
dill rings or similar i have ever had have been from the 1097.5 Beachy, but it's entirely possible that that trait is gone from the 501 seed. 510.6/501 Gerrys....try them!
also, they ALLLLL look good to me, nice crosses everywhere,
and the Schnicker? for goodness' sake, guys, i would have tried that one myself before even my OWN! lol---MHO---eric

My choice is the 250 (assuming is was a genetics pumpkin), the 1029 and the 613. Three should fill your space.

28 x 60 is enough for three pumpkins huh? If I christmas tree each one, it should be rather full. I am thinking of letting one plant throw two fruit as well, just to see what happens. Remember, I am the new guy...

Newbee- a dill ring is a circular ring around the fruit where the walls are much thinner, usually close to the blossom end. Pumpkins are prone to splitting open at this weaker area. I'd put a link up to a diary pic, but I don't want to single anybody out ;>). You'll know it when you see it.

Yeah, once you see the pictures, you will know it. Also, I think there is some stuff in one of Don's books. The second one isn't it?

Instead of a uniform fruit, there is a line or indentation going around the pumpkin. That is your Dill Ring. I hate that term, if I was Howard Dill I would be pissed.

Herbie,
For color, I'd pick 1029 Kurilich X 250 Snicker and/or the reverse cross.

Yeah, I think between the two patches I will be running back and forth crossing different plants. If I could get some pictures from Pumpkin Joe Kurilich, it would finalize my decision. The Schnicker is one of the definates in my personal patch, but I will oversee all six plants.
