milford, CT,

My question is...Why do growers self pollinate. I am going to grow a 942 Garrell (898 Knauss x Self). Should I self it one more time? What results should I be trying to achieve?

Sometimes it is done in an attmept to isolate desirable phenotypes/characteristics. Othertimes its done because its the only pumpkin seed a grower has planted.

milford, CT,

I'm also planting a 500 Beauchemin and 1081 Leonzi. Any ideas about what might be the best crosses amongst the three.

Probaby the Leonzi with each of the others. You're mostly
898 on the two of them, and 845x898 on the other. Then I'd
do the 500 into the Leonzi, as the 500 has a chance at
being "hot". Just my two cents.

All in all, not a bad lineup for three seeds, and a plan
for crosses!

500X942 Almost all 898
942X500 Good reverse
1081XSelf I'd try to keep that one pure as it's the same cross as 1068, 1104.5, 1133.4, others
