On my seed choices for my garden and for my neighbor, as well as some possible crosses. Please refer to other posts below labeled, "Rookie needs help..." if you are not familiar with these seeds. For myself 250 Schnicker, 613 Kurilich, and the 1029 Kurilich with I will cross the 1029 and the 250 back and forth, and self teh 613.

In my neighbors patch will go the 510 Gerry, 967 Kurilich, and the 901.5 Kurilich. The 510 and 967 will be crossed back and forth and the 901.5 will be selfed.

I want to cross the Gerry because of it's light colored Bobier background, and hopefully catch the Bobier size and shape with new added orange.

If these crosses sound silly, let me know.

I looked my list over, and there are some classic gene lines in there. I have lineages of many famous pumpkins in all of these seeds. IT"S LIKE A PUMPKIN ORGY, MAN! I still have extra that I will sprout for backup, and if it turns out, I will give them to someone else to plant.

Another question....If I direct seed, it is recommended to start each hill with how many seeds of the same seed? 3-4 then cull the weaker plants?

no. find out/research/discover the magic of indoor
seed-starting. these AG seeds are not as plentiful and
easy to come by as the ones you can buy at the store with 50 to a packet. an extreme example would be like an 801.5 Stelts or a 567.5 Mombert...you wouldn't, i HOPE, lol,
stick one of those in the ground and just hope that it
comes up! anyway, pretend each seed from another grower
is your last one and if it doesn't sprout you will have no season. i'm not saying all this because you have some of
MYYYYYYYYYY seeds in your plans, but i feel it is essential to give Mother Nature less of a chance to inhibit the seeds from starting. cold, moist, unprepared soil is best left to the seeds from the store....these (your buddies')seeds are special and every opportunity must be taken to ensure their germination. just my nickel's worth----eric g

PS---"your buddies" are the growers, all of them,
whom have sent you seeds for the '06 season. eric
