I have a 1385 collecting dust. Is it a good idea using that as a pollinator to produce orange offspring? There is not so many offsprings from this pumpkin? why? The parents 898 knaus and 783 dlaetas is nothing to be ashamed of.

The 783 itself is a variable seed. The cross with the 898 Knauss only makes it more heterozygous, which results in even less consistency in the offspring. The parents did both do well, which is a positive. I generally don't like the 1385, but there is a chance that there is a really good 1385 seed out there. The best crosses I can think of would be with a fairly pure 898 Knauss or 801.5 Stelts line in order to get some more consistency. I could be wrong though.

The 826.5 Shymanski (1016 Daletas X 1385 Daletas) produced a very nice brilliant orange pumpkin for me (before it ended in a stem split) so I think it works great as an orange pollinator.
