I am growing two plants this year. one is the 993 Sherwood (1041 Sherwood 04/ 842 Eaton 02) and the other plant is a 998 Picketts ( 961 Daletas / 933 Picketts 04). Would crossing these make a good cross? Any thoughts. Next question... If I take pollen from the sherwood and put it on the picketts female blossom, would the seeds out of that pumpkin be identical to one where I did the opposite,,, such as taking pollen from the pickets male and put it on the sherwood female blossom?????? Same cross, same result?????? Thanks

Me i would cross them, thats myself, the other/ Thats a reverse cross, the seeds would have the same parents, but not always the same results when growing, one cross may do better. Than its reverse/ As far as self pollinate, thats a question nobody knows for sure , you would knock off 1/2 its genetic tree setting it up for a good cross in the future with traits you desire. As far as the 998, and the 933 are conciderd they havent been heavly planted yet, so you may be sitting on a gold mine, both Jim, and cliford have been growing for some time now.

Thanks for your input!! Does anyone else have any input. I haven't been following the pumpkin genetic lines because I am a newby to this site and really have no idea what kind of seeds I have..... I just know they look like the parent pumpkins were good sized....??????

Growler,

Welcome to Giant Punkaholics anonymous....this is indeed a addictive sport. Check out this site> http://briansinsanity.com/index1.html

Although I relatively new to this sport, I have researched the family trees.....I have noticed how these genetics have "ramped up" as the weights have "ramped up".....Look at the genetic parents and progeny....What will we be getting with the 1420.5 LaRue Cross with the 1233.5 Reiss or More Daletas genes....I really noted the 898 Knauss and its contributions to the pipeline? Or one of them Holland monsters with the ramped genetics....I'm one that wants to find out.....This is how Doc Brown invented the flux capacitor........lol
