I noticed that my first few females out were 4 lobers.....later on now I only have Big flowers with 5 Lobes...would I ever expect to see at 6 lobe female....do they come in 5 1/2"s?? Does ferts or genetics have any play in this..... Just wondering...This is my learning year.. Should I expect a bigger kin from a 5 over a 4 or just more seeds? Man I cant wait till next year......and no hail damage it put me so far behind......d@mn

Size and number of lobes have not been proven to be related. Four or five lobes are regular, 6 are less common. I have had one case of 7 lobes but I did not pollinate it because the lobes were way too crowded and irregular.

On my 621 Zulhke this year I have had 4, 5, 6 and 7 lobers so I doubt it if fertlizers have any impact at all.

If they say anything, the number of lobes and their shapes will say something about the shape of the pumpkin later on.

5 lobes are definetly more common in my patch this year. Only one 6 lober and two 4 lobers but as for your 5 1/2 question, here's one of mine this year.
