First Timers Take Three

Arroyo Grande, CA,USA

We did. Plant grew slow for us. Nice looking plant with big leaves. Had numerous problems with critters this year. Pollinated a pumpkin on 7/6 to a 1469Checkon. Unfortunately only about 9 ft out on the main. A ground squirrel ate the main about 2ft after the pumpkin.
It's grown pretty well but it's BUTT UGLY! It's sorta pear shaped with lumps and bumps all over! It's a funny shade of cream and is heavily cantalouped (hopefully heavy). Ribs aren't very deep yet. We've had many cooler nights here so the growth has slowed considerably. We also crossed a 699Bosworth with the 1333Connolly.

I'm growing the 1333. It took me a few tries to get a set that looked ok but I think that was my own falt (too much n from my own composted chicken manure). The plant has been our most agresive and continues to look the best. Fruit polinated on 7-14 (a true wheel) and is still growing 20lbs a day, with the help of some 0-0-50. Todays OTT is 278 or 458lbs.

Dino

Napa, CA

I'm growing the 1333 in Napa, CA. It's a wagon wheel/bird bath shape. Taping over 1000 lbs., hoping it will weigh heavy. The stem end is in the soil, had to trench the pumpkin to allow for the main vine. Huge diameter, 180", but the other 2 OTT measurements are under 100". The shape is very flat, distance between stem end and blossom end no more than 18". Hoping for a very small cavity and therefore heavy weitht. We'll see what happens at the Half Moom Bay weigh-off.
