I have a source from a R & D seed genetics lab possible from a major grocery chain. I plan on asking several questions about selfing and hybridizing characteristics. Are they any questions others are interested in? I will ask...and post their answers. It always seems we are stumped on this but there are those trained and I for one have a need to know. Let me know via post what questions you may have. Thanks

My questions:
How to go about breeding for pumpkin shape, if possible, for these monsters.
Also, do they think hybrid vigor is possible for A.G.s?
Thanks Wiz for consulting us.

Wiz, I love yer vigor for this idea...truly I do...but do ya think that a R&D lab from a grocery store chain..."my opinion only"..."Who has no profit potential, will give you a lot of serious, results?"...Not meaning to demean your efforts, and hope for the best...and would like to know the name of the chain??? Maybe they would be willing to help us here in Kentucky too?? I need all the help I can get!! Peace, Wayne

Question: Do enviromental influences like weather and soil have any effect on the genetics of pumpkins growing.
And by selfing a plant for a couple of years in a row would you create a pure seed, would it evolve due to increassing good care(experience)en soil?

Wayne,

I would rather not release the name but it is a national chain. The lab is in California where some of the growers are. They specialize in hybridization and plant genetics releasing plants to grow after studing DNA strains, meethods , techniques.....quite interesting and these are the folks with the degrees so I figure if I can get a few anwers who else better to ask.......I know many people have questions and it would be great for some of the folks who make this their living to give us some more info.....Grow them Bigger!.....lol

Can the genetic code be mapped?

ALL genetic codes can be mapped. It all boils down to money.

Is there a specific gene for color? (or are there multiple genes)
