Are there growers out there involved in any breeding programs? I would like to hear about selfing over many generations, specific crosses for color, weight, etc. If we can get some folks to talk about programs they are working on over the last few years, that would be great...thanks, Ray Leonzi

The 946.5 Carlson 06* is the fifth generation selfed 900.5 Lyons 94*.

900.5 Lyons - 895.5 Hester - 552 Sherwood - 1086 Carlson - 946.5 Carlson.

What I don't understand with this one is that the 946.5 is the only dark green one.

Maybe Carlson can inform us what he is after.

I second that RayL, very interested in on-going genetics input......I know its not easy but lets talk about it and the observations so far........

Orangeneck (Team HAMMER)

Eastern Pennsylvania

603 Muller = 845 Nesbitt x self
669 Muller = 603 Muller x self

my 423 Gerhardt = 669 Muller x 603 Muller

I'm hoping for very predictable shaped orange pumpkins out of it.

Ray, I been back crossing my 699 for the last two years, Im thinking next Im going to cross my 556 with back into the 1370 Rose.

1260 Weir( 845 Bobier x 846 Calai )
grew my
699 Bosworth ( 1260 Weir x 1370 Rose) (1370 is 126O'S daughter)
grew my
556 Bosworth (699 Bosworth 05' (Daughter of the 1260 Weir) x 845 Bobier (Mother of the 1260 Weir)

If I grow the 1370 this year Im crossing it back into the 556 Bosworth. I have a good many cross backs, I dont think the 556 is going to throw a orange pumpkin though next year with the 845 Bobier I crossed back into it this year,it might though.

A selfing project doesn't do that much good without lots of plants, and good selection. Unless you get lucky every year, you have no idea if you are breeding out the best, worst, or middle of the road genetics.
Who is growing at least 10 of a single seed that they are selfing and picking the best from every year?

I'm thinking of starting a breeding project with the 603.5 Muller 03 seed. I may grow two 603.5's and sibb cross them both ways, and also cross each 603.5 into a 603.5 X self plant. It's still a ways till planting time, so my plans could change.
