Hi Brooks.

I think it's going to be a good one also. I've had a lot of interest in the seed, considering it came from a pumpkin weighing about 125 pounds, lol.

I blew up the one i grew. It was the nicest looking plant, and i actually thought my biggest this year was going to come from the 125.

Mike Frantz and Rob seals each had one in. Imperssive plants, and Mike said that Rob's 125 had the biggest "day 0" female he had seen. both plants were lost to the disease that got most of their plants. I would have loved to seen what those guys would have produced.

Danny and Bryan Reeb each had the 125 in. I think they both had disease problems. one was 350's, and the other over 700.

Joe Scherber grew it, but i don't have much info from him. apparently his split estimating over 800. He was interested in growing the 125 again last I knew.

Most of the 125's that i saw pictures of took the look of the 723. Dan's was the only one that i know of to have any real orange to it, and was definately shaped differently.

Andy:

Have the 125's that have been weighed gone heavy or light to the chart?

That 125 seed sure did produce some weird looking pumpkins, so did your 1407 grow a few odd shapped ones but who cares about what they look like as long as they are big!
Andy, I think I told you this but not sure, I grew your 1407 down below my house, It stalled on me with 4 true leaves for about 3 weeks, there was no growth at all, it was healthy but it just wouldnt grow, so I pulled it, it was the weirdest thing I have ever seen, I have never seen one do thaat before, almost like a dwarf pumpkin plant species, lol. I found out later from my neighbor when he came up with his back hoe to lift my pumpkins for weighing that he said the old farm house that used to be here in the spot that I had your 1407 was the spot they dumped there wood and coal ashes from there wood burner for years and years. That has to have something to do with it growing like it did. Wonder whats in wood and coal ash that would make a plant totally stop growing but yet stay healthy looking?

Wood ashes will make the soil very, very alkaline, high in Potash.

might want to get that tested if you're considering putting a pumpkin there next year. my best guess is that your K is through the roof.

Brooks, I am planting two 125's this coming summer. I will sib one and cross one with my 1010dmg'06. I promised Andy early on, if I could get one I would plant it and he sent two. I will post them in my diary so people can compare, because I too think alot of people will grow it in 2007. One that will be very interesting also is his 792. Check it out. If you have a 125 good luck to you this year.

Andy, your 1407 Plant the pollinator of your 125?

Never mind Andy, I just looked on the AGGC and it is the pollinator, no wonder that little 125 packs a big punch!

That spot I planted in had been atleast 10 yrs or more before the old farm house that was here burnt down and my neighbor that told me about it has lived out this way all his life, hes 80 some yrs old, so it could have been alot longer then that the ashes was thrown in that spot, Ill have to ask him, Id think after that long period of time it would have washed away the K. Doc explained something to me a while ago when I told him about it but cant remember what he said about that area I planted in why old wood and coal ash would have a effect. My long gourds that was planted there grew the exact same way the 1407 did.
