Kathy, most growers would agree the 898Knauss seed and it's off spring have produced some of the thickest walled pumpkins. The 898 was the male pollinator of the 1068Wallace. Email me and i'll send you some photos you'll be amazed with. pmpkngrwr@hotmail.com

hey you

Greencastle, PA

The thickest walls I've ever seen were from a 611 Hester. That's a pretty good seed, but it hasn't done much lately, so it shouldn't be too hard to find.

1260 Weir Kathy,
the 1260 usually grows real heavy with really really thick walls like some of these it has grown,
709.5 McCallum 2002 34% heavy
840 Compainion 05, 15% Heavy,
1129 Hester 15% heavy
951.4 Castellucci 2002 20%heavy,
851.0 Davies 2004 19.8% heavy,
680.0 Rose 2005 16% heavy,
572.0 Andrews 2003 10% heavy,
511.2 Zaychkowsky 2006 14%
699 Bosworth 8% heavy (Not that heavy but how could I leave this pumpkin out?) LOL
The 1260 was one of the leaders in % heavy to the OTT, I think its since fallen off the charts a little and not sure which ones leads in this category now.
That's the main reason why I grew the 1260 because of the thick walls and % heavy it goes to the OTT.

I'm gonna give that 611 a go this year. Its like 'Hey You' says, this one also grows some thick walled heavy pumpkins. I have some plans with this 611.5 Hester seed and i'm going to try and cross it with the newer seed out there that has grown some monsters pumpkins. I think its gonna be fun to see what it will produce crossing it with the new seed from some of these giants that growers have grown in the past few years.
I'm not to sure the 611.5 will be that easy to find though, you really think it will be easy to find? I know I had a hard time finding it until I was surprised and it was given to me from James Carson. Haven't seen or heard much about this seed as of late.

I think I know where I can get one too, maybe some others could as well if they join the Maine club maybe. Mr. Pinkham beat me by 35 lbs with that thick walled beast! Wait 'til next year, hopefully :} LOL KathyT

Beet (stellern)

Cheyenne, Wyoming

Here are a few additional pumpkins that are likely to produce thick walls:

822 Hester
1407 Wolf
916 Golat
1325 Daletas
1120 Jutras
1139 Sherwood
1180 Daletas
695 Handy
897 Davies
1142 VanKooten
1085 Boor
961 Urena
1185 Leonard
1247 Handy
709 McCallum
805 Pukos
1253 Sperry
1337 and 1058 Houghton
552 Sherwood - Squash

Several of these only have one or two offspring, but they've come out very heavy. Several, like the 822 Hester, 1139 Sherwood, and the 1407 Wolf don't have an under the chart pumpkin listed among their off-spring. I think the easiest seed to get that would very likely throw you a thick pumpkin would be the 1139 Sherwood.
