I would like to find a website like AGGC or be able to access AGGC. Can anyone help me out?

In my judgment there is no website 'like' the aggc. You can try Mike Nepereny at
webmaster at aggc.org

It hasn't been updated since 2003 but Brian's Insanity is a good resource while awaiting AGGC access.

Thanks Edwards for the email address.
Tremor I'm unable to even get limited access. I was able to a year or more ago but not now.

Very interesting question.... What are the conditions to get the limited access? Is there a chance to get it without joining the GVGO?

What hoops must one jump through to access the AGGC directly??

there should be a source for all growers to check out genes and progeny, it would be good for all growers.
Somwhere wher you can register your pumpkins and check out others whitout a middle man to enter data!

In the AG world we have many levels of growers, while the growers at the lower end of the scale would spend several dollars getting good seed, fertilizer, watering gadgets, shade structures etc, etc. I don't think $20 will make a difference to Join a club that has axcess to the AGGC. Where would we be if we couldn't trace the seeds back to see what we would plant each year. You will also get some great seeds when you join along with the other benefits. It's a drop in the bucket in the whole expenditure of this great hobby/sport/obsession.

O.H., from what I have read, direct access to AGGC....grow one over 500#, get recommended by a current member, and approval from AGGC. Not sure if that is exact, but have been told that that is the process. GVGO is the way to go, IMHO, I am not sure what info is available with full access, but the limited access thru GVGO membership, for a measly $20, is way more than I can comprehend or keep track of. Also, a pack of cool seeds. Peace, Wayne

Cook, just my opinion, but I think that a middle man, who is dedicated, and very strict, is a necessity. If anybody could enter stats at any time, what good would the list be? Maybe I am misreading your post, but some regulating force has to be in place. Peace, Wayne

The middle man, Mike has done a great job at putting the info. together, in different ways, to make it quite useful IMO. Email Mike, and inquire for yourselves about membership into the AGGC, if you're interested.

ditto, What doug said Mike is a really cool guy, he just didnt like getting ripped off with 5 or more folks useing the same password all online at the same time, and he knows, becuase after all he is the webmaster, and its a hell of alot of work to complie data on 67,000 fruits , and counting, also there is a member maintained board of pumpkins under 500lbs alot have tremedous potenial, dont bash Mike he has granted 90% or more full access just by asking him, the truth is he got tierd of being ripped off by growers, and other sites, he doest take that kindly to say the leased he's really nice, but can be a junk yard dog if he has to. Also the GVGO has AGGC, and other perks too! And the NY group i think has the same perks correct me if i'm wrong,Both sites are great so just ask him, and remember, to tell him why, and your intentions, and be honest Remember its a co operative that means you need to send in data, and be part of the taking, and sharing info.

Thanks a lot for your replys..it is now my second season growing big pumpkins and I was just wondering about the process to get access to AGGC. I will join the GVGO next year...no question. Unfortunately we do not have such great organisations/clubs here in germany...
Frank, the email address is:

Good luck to all in 2007!

Raimund, it's time to start a European group. Until then, I am representing European growers for the GVGO.

You are correct about that address Raimund.
Maybe the more tech savvy among us can explain, though. Does posting an alpha-numerically correct e-mail address on a message board leave one open for trollers & spam?
I guess that same question goes for having your e-mail address posted in the "location" field in your profile.
How is that any more safe than having the e-mail addresses in the 'envelopes' like we used to have here?

But I digress. Mike has been oft maligned here. But yet there are few more dedicated to the advancement of AG pumpkin breeding.I'd love to see more people support his considerable efforts by either joining the AGGC, or submitting their data, or both. It's an invaluable resource.

Frank E., thanks for the hint with the e-mail address. You make me aware, that it could make problems...that was not my intention.

I think the bip-pumpkin-community here in europe will grow steadily and I`m sure, that some "new data" will appear on AGGC in the future.

Brat, yes we need an european organisation. There is alot of work to do, so it would take some time...for example it would be a big effort to have "GPC weight-offs" here in Germany next year...so i will help to advance this sport, if i can.

Best wishes!
Raimund

I tried several times to join AGGC with no luck. I've even contacted Mike via email. My question is: is Mike using growing groups as his watchdog? Are they in cahoots?

Seems to me all the secrecy is unwarranted. If I enter data on an AGGC form at a weigh-off, I should be able to access that data.

And, in response to Edwards, I would LOVE to join AGGC. I would support his efforts 100%.

Hope that my post was not "bashing" or "oft maligning"...my utmost respect for Mike and the info he has put together. Just wish I had something to input!!! LOL Peace, Wayne
