Are smooth pumpkins less prone to a DMG designation, compared with deeper ribbed pumpkins? I would guess rib splits would be less prevalent(obviously?). In general, are shallow ribs more desireable than deeper ribs. The 670 Daigle seems to tend toward very shallow ribs, on average.

i grew a 912.5 from the 1370 Rose in '06;
my thought is that the 'lobier' a pumpkin is, the
more weight it will exhibit, almost like surface area
or something, but i can tell you i was pretty worried about the fruit splitting between
those big, husky lobes! lucky me, no, it did not split.
"happy mediums" are always best. eric g

Don't forget the Eaton 1301 was not "ribby" but was very heavy? I'm planning on crossing it with the 1420 Larue and hopefully will end up with medium size ribs and very heavy!
