a friend of ours is growing wallace plants at his florida farm.

he reports that the 1,502 is a superior plant to this point, outdistancing others in his patch by a noticable amount. lots of vigor early on, which we had hoped for when crossing the 1068 fm with the checkon male pollinator.

i know a lot of you were able to get the 1502 so i thought id give you his update from time to time.

Pap, I hope there will be some pics too, before I decide whether to grow the 1502 or not!

Pictures probably not. Measurements and a Description Possibly.
The guy is a old time grower who has a bad heart and does not know how to use a camera or computer.
But he sure loves to hit the singles bars when hes not laid up in bed or in the patch.
I hope he makes it through the season so ron and i can get an early indication of the 1502 possibilies.

Thanks Pap. I was able to acquire a 1502 via the auction route and had initially decided to hold it back for a year or so, opting to grow the 1446 Eaton, 742 Wolf, 811 Gerchy, and 1353.5 Liggett. Guess I'm gonna have to make room.

So are there actually a lot of 1502 seeds out there that wont get planted next year? I mean if people actually got lucky enough to get a hold of one of these seeds whether they paid big bucks for one or got lucky enough to get one not gonna plant it? With a seed like that I hope its widely planted and selfed for some people can get a hold of one next year a little bit easier. Good news though looks promising.

I'll be growing it this year.
For those of you undecided about growing it, here's something to consider...BOTH parents have grown at least one over 1400 lbs. (1068 X 1354). Looks pretty promising to me!!!

Thanks again!

The Floridian 1502 is still not in the ground since the Daytona area has been under constant frost advisories. Grrr.

Steve, I'm confused that you say "The Floridian 1502 is still not in the ground" when pap said "he reports that the 1,502 is a superior plant to this point, outdistancing others in his patch by a noticable amount. lots of vigor early on"

Sounds like the 1502 is in the patch, is that not so??

I spoke with the grower on the phone today. He notes that the 1502 has been the largest & most agressive in the pots. It is more vigorous, bigger, faster & more robust and has been ever since it broke the seed coat. He expected to have all of his plants in the ground by now but has been delayed by the threat of frost.
