Wiz: The 1005 Mombert x 1097 Beachy produced the 664.5 Liggett. The 664.5 Liggett produced the 1353.5 Liggett. Both real beauties.

I grew the 1005 in 2005. the plant itself was unimpressive, and the leaves were a lighter green than the other plants. However, it really wanted to grow pumpkins. I split the main vine pumpkin at the blossom end at 742 pounds. It would have been right around 1000 if it could have kept growing. One if the prettiest pumpkins I had that year, even if it wasn't a bright orange. I kept one on a secondary that made it to 425 pounds. Both were a little over the chart. Both were pollinated with the 1097 Beachy, making them the only 664 Ligget remakes that I know of.

I never posted a pic of the 742, but here's one of the 425 after it was carved: http://bigpumpkins.com/displayphoto.asp?pid=4240&gid=-16717

A few years back, Jake vanKooten brought over the 718 lb fruit grown from the 1005 Mombert. Jake also grew a 748 on the same plant. Both were a very nice orange and great round shape. Here is the 718.

That seed grew the 940 Hayward in 2006. Real nice high round and symmetrical shape. Medium ribbing, large stem, and medium color. Strong and steady grower.

I grew the 1005 Mombert in 2004. It was perhaps the most aggressive grower that I have seen. Part of this was that I had too much manure that year, so I got lots of plant growth and not much fruit growth. I ended up with a decently shaped 486 that had good color with cantaloping. It could have done much better with better care, as the plant was not pruned all that well, and during much of August I had 5 fruits growing on it at one time.

Its appearing that this fruit did not show alot of orange. I was looking at the genetics and wanting to cross it with the Zunino 1191 but am now thinking since I want big and orange this will not work although I liked the 723 going into it. Oh well back to the drawing board.

I am now thinking that the 1046 Bowles should be grown instead to mate with the Zunino. Should make Dan happy, Bowles on Bowles. SHould go nice big and orange too.
