Just curious as to what your own experience with your own crosses is.

all of the top growers year in and year out plant mostly their own crosses. they will sprinkle in others they like as well, but for the most part they prove out their own seeds.then others jump on the results.

the funny side of this comment is that before they can get to plant and prove out their own crosses they have to start by first growing someone elses seed. -------- thats where the guess work and name recognition comes into play.

you may start with certain seeds from others that you like then, once you produce something respectable everyone wants a piece of it.

we are ll the same in that reguard

(Rolls eyes at the sham of an answer above) There are plenty of great crosses out there that haven't been planted. There are so many 1068 and 500 Wallace remakes out there surely one of them would throw huge pumpkins. Also alot of growers did the same cross as 1231 and 998 Pukos in 2005. They deserve a look. If you look in your seed collection at that seed that you thought of planting but decided not to, that might be the hot seed no ones planted! Just my opinion.

Pap:
Since we are on this topic, do you know of any offspring from your 961 Wallace 03?
Also, was the 898 pollinator the same plant as was used to pollinate the 845 that produced the 1068?

frank yes it was a one time deal because we only planted one 898 which was 2003.

i dont know of any real big offspring from the 961. i think a couple in the 700 to 800 range. it never really got a large following.
