With in the last 4 years or so what new Hybrid vigor cross has been a stand out seed to grow that has been growing some huge pumpkins?

And is there any hybrid vigor crosses that have been done that hasnt been grown yet you think will grow some huge Pumpkins.

Good question Brooks,,maybe Joze will chime in and give us his thoughts.

I hope to find that out this year, Brooks, with our 811. It's a 664.5 Liggett x 1030 Armstrong cross.

Honestly Brooks, Im not entirely convinced myself we can say with any degree of certainty that we've observed HV in AG's. This perspective may seem contradictory to my previous articles on the topic- Based on what I've learned and observed since penning those articles, I feel that there are currently too many variables involved, the genetics are not "clean" enough, and there isnt enough control within the crosses to draw conclusions. I dont mean to rain on anyone's parade, but we need more info to talk about HV and AG's.

Dont be discouraged, lack of proof doesnt take away from the quality and potential of the seeds available today. Perhaps a better a to look at it is this: is there a genetic link to unprecedented improvements in weights over the last 10 years??? Did the 567 Momberts of yesteryear have the genetic material, cellular machinery, photosynthetic capacity of today's 1068 Wallaces? Are our selective pollination practices (un)knowningly hyper-evolving the AG genome? Is this even possible?

ok, i'll jump off the box for a bit and let some others chime in. $10.00 to whoever provides THE answer to those questions. ha!

I think we are trying to"de-evolve" our fruits. In its native habitat the fruit size would eventually be determined by whatever was more advantageous, and large slow maturing fruits might not have an advantage if their season does not match the environment. Perhaps HV expresses itself in smaller faster maturing fruits and thats not really what we want. I don't think that too much time should be wasted worrying about Hybrid-vigor even though I would loved to be proven wrong. Don
