Last night I started two seed for a educational experiment this year. 1233 Reiss, and my 369 hail proven seed, 1233 Reiss selfed. I will grow them side by side to compare how they do. Many inlcuding myself have had questions about selfing so I thought this would be a great opportunity to compare. Sizes of the seeds were different with the selfed seed a smaller version of its MOM, but the same shade and shape as Mom. Should be interesting.....I will include entries of this in my diary. Both of these seeds will be on public display at Hudson Gardens.....

Do you have any brothers or sisters? Do you look like them?I have found a selfed pumpkin can look the same or completely opposite of what you thought you were going for. Just like when you cross to pumpkins, its a guessing game.

Last year I grew the 150 Peck, and my last seed from it's parent: 625 Foss... The 150 came from a smooth White 'kin that was selfed.... Interestingly, the second seed from the 625 - grew a big, deeply ribbed, deep orange w/deep green bottom. Totally different than it's sister seed the year prior. 150 Peck grew a smooth white again which was selfed.

(granted the 625 Foss was OP)

This year I've got a B181 Peck (150 selfed - from the 625 foss selfed) and several 400 Pecks (625 foss selfed)

Regardless of what type of 'kin this line has produced - the plants have consistently performed very well in our southern climate. In a couple more generations - these two continually inbred lines will be bred together... Just to see what happens...

Well so far not so good, 1233.5 Reiss seed rotted, bad Wiz....planted another and it is sprouting...
The 369Grande is a vigorous grower, planting in the ground Friday this week, the 1233 will be behind by a few days.
