Here are two pics of the cloned plant *1053 Werner Green Squash. Two plants off one seed. The cottle leaf detached itself below ground. I repotted in and it has developed its first true leaf and the cottel doubled in size.

This is the mother plant:

This is the cloned plant from the cottle.

Next I will try and surgically removed a cottle, let it hard a bit, then replant it in the germination chamber with Hollands Myco and Biostimulants....should prove interesting. How would you like to get two 1068 plants from one seed?

Madman did this type of experiment years ago, he also did a split clone like you have going, along with a graft fused to the split clone from another plant.
His crazy ideas must have infected you also, maybe it is a Colo. thing. If you wish to know the results, you better get with the madman, as the after crazier than cloning projects I did not keep up with...Cloning was enough and I agree with it when it comes to genetic preservation, but the other stuff, well, you better talk to the Madman. Have fun.......JK

Could be the light air up here James, or the boinging of hail balls off the noggin.

Russ Landry has been cloning AG plants for a couple years. I think he has one in the patch this year.

Although the splits are a bit smaller, the first leaves are starting to catch up, I will have to chat with Russ and Mad Man about the speariment.....
I would think that at such a young stage the plants should be identical with the "embryonic DNA" so young.

Gary, Yes I have a clone from my 902 of last year growing out in the patch. It is doing very well with a set at about 15' on the main vine that is now past the 50" mark on day 16.

The mother plant was started in December 2006 and the clone was severed in early March. The plant was set out on April 21st of this year. It is a little slower than normal for a benchmark fruit but it has been cool at night.

I hope to keep this growing as long as possible. I have been plagued with splitters for three years so nothing is for sure in my patches.

Two years ago I lost an early set squash that was 555 in late July. This plant was also a clone.

I like to grow clones because I feel they can produce more adventitious roots. Clones grow in exactly the same manner a seeded plant does. I have found very little difference between the two once they start to vine.

Russ,

My clone too is growing well, behind everything else but it is now vining out and producing nice male flowers anywise, I ll try this again next year cutting off a cottel and rooting it. It will be a fun experiment.
