Within the genetic traits of the 801.5 Stelts, a grower here is always touting those special genetics....In others words why are they sought after which ones stand out more than others.....Was it a heavy orange pumpkin with snout? .Just wondering bout genetics, orange, and snout........

How about the percentage over the charts.....too many orange pumpkins went light, looking for that exception....is the 801.5 that exception?

+1.29% top 10. 7 pumpkins over 1000. 846 calai being one of the most popular grown on it. 1109 speakman top weight.
wiz take a look at the 802 kurilich if you are looking for orange round and heavy.

Gary, You witnessed got stelts at the southern colo weighoff, but I guess you were too busy with the upper angle crew so you could not see straight when it comes to the others of the little ones. Take a look at the 368 Albertson that you all thought was puny. This grower is first year with no guidance at over 6100 altitude crap soil, and to boot over 70 years old and a 150 sq. ft backyard patch. HE DID WONDERFUL and was totally honest in his methods of growing and competing in a family event. I gave him this 798 Calai plant 2000 I started for him, and he wanted to pay me, and my reply was grow a biggie and that is your payment. Well he did one according to the measure of the tape 20% over the chart. Not bad for an old man in his 70+ who has never grown without guidance.This is what it is all about. God Bless Fred Calai, And Dave Is the man, Stelts. Study the 798 and you will see got Stelts. It is about fun and family and not ....Well I will not go there...

my thanks to gary for all the work he has done to get a giant pumpkin weigh off organization off the ground.
its called a giant pumpkin weigh off.while everyone is encouraged to grow, its usually always the bigger fruit that get the attention.
thats just the nature of the competition.

its a sad time of the year. i dont know what i enjoyed more. drinking an occasional cool one on the pumpkin shack porch with our pumpkin buddies or actually growing the dam things.
