On top of Brush Mountain, Pa.

I grew a 1420 LaRue and a 1354 Checkon this year. I cross pollinated each plant and so I have 1354/1420 seed and 1420/1354 seed. The Checkon produced a 1090 pound pumpkin while the LaRue grew a beautiful orange 809 pounder. The blossom on the LaRue was only 9 feet out and was a 3 segment blossom. Which plant has the best seeds or are they just alike?

Sounds like a promising cross. They both sound nice. How did they compare to the chart...heavy or light?

tough call. i think the most widely planted true reverse crosses right now is the 1231/998 pukos seeds. so far the 998 is doing better, but from what i hear, there are less 998's out there. it will be interesting to see what happens when more 1231's get planted.

if the 998 is indeed better, i would go with your 809 if you only want to plant one of them since it is a similar background.

It depends on what you mean by best. I believe if you plant them out they'll have close to the same size potential. I'd guess the 809 will have sligtly better size potential than the 1090. And your 1090 seeds will produce better looking fruits than your 809 seeds. This is assuming your two plants were grown in nearly identical environments.
