I have recently been scouting some seed crosses for next year and I found two decent crosses that I think I might use. They were (723 Bobier x 846 Calai) and (898 Knauss x 1068 Wallace). I would like to cross these two seed lines, but the pumpkins that the seeds came from were only in the 500 pound range. So could this cross produce a fruit over 500 pounds or will the resulting fruit only get up to 500 pounds? I want to try to BREAK the Delaware state record for the largest pumpkin next year, So I would like to get a pumpkin to 600+ pounds(3 times the weight of my pb, lol) if I can. If any of you have an opinion on how large the fruit could possibly be if I use this cross please let me know.

those crosses could easily break 600 if not 1000 under the right conditions. The weight of the pumpkin that you get your seeds from doesn't matter. Thadd starr grew his 1500+ pumpkin of a 275# lealand pumpkin.

it is not so much the seed that will get you 600 pounds and up, it is the soil being ammended to feed the plant to produce a fruit of that size.........most Atlantic Giant verity seeds have this potential.......so without a bananced soil.............good luck

I agree with everyone else here to an extent as well with the cross you have its capable of 1000 Plus pounds.Grow them cross them.Then grow a seed from each the following year you may get lucky.It sound like an awsome cross.

and dan bowles grew his 1175 state record last year on a 125 wolf. Genetics dont change according to fruit size, example if I gain 200 lbs my children will still look the same.

Thank you everyone for your advice. I'm glad to know that my chances of breaking the state record are good for this cross. I really want to use it because it has an older cross (723 x 846), but a newer one as well (1068 x 898). If I can cross pollinate the varieties I should get a 600+ pounder hopefully. A 1000 pounder would be AWESOME (LOL).
