The 935 was grown by George Lloyd near Simcoe Ontario, Canada in 1997.

Here is an excert from the summer 2007 addition of the GVGO growers vine news letter, written by George Lloyd discussing his induction into the hall of fame and the contribution of the 935, along with Gus Saunders involvment:

"After winning first place in the Ottawa weigh off in 1997, my 935 pumpkin was shipped to Japan where it was shown at several food fairs. There was at no time anything said about the seeds being returned to me. Had Gus not attended the food fairs along with the 935, and three other
pumpkins, and while there negotiated to have some of the seeds returned, the 935 gene line would have been lost. the Japanese kept 100 of the 935 seeds, 325 went to the St. Lawrence growers association and 300 were returned to me. If not for Gus, I would have not received my award in Niagara Falls in March. Nor would there have been a couple of world records grown and other pumpkins that did very well using the 935 seeds."

If you have access to aggc-pull up all years(pumpkins) or backtract through 723 bobier or 845 bobier pumpkin family trees and you will get 935 lloyd info.

There are very few, if any, 935 Lloyds out there any more. There are some selfed 935's available from some growers. The original 935 has basically reached the end of its viability. I tried to germinate two last year but was unsuccessful.

With 725 seeds, there are bound to be some out there yet stashed in some old collections. I agree the viability is likely very low but I wouldn't write them off just yet. I asked George Lloyd a couple years ago and he didn't have any more and didn't no anyone that did.

Wow...thanks for all the info. I will look on the aggc and track it that way. I didn't know I could do that with my membership. I

hey you

Greencastle, PA

You can look up the ancestry tree of the 935 Lloyd here: http://www.briansinsanity.com/familytree.html
the great-great grandparents descend from Gancarz and Dill seeds.
An exemplary descendant of the 935 Lloyd is the 805 Pukos. It was grown from the 1092 Burke, the 1998 World Record and self pollinated 935 Lloyd. The pollinating plant was the 723 Bobier, 935 Lloyd x 865 Mettler (946 Geerts x 567 Mombert). That particular 723 grew the 1096.8 Pukos, the first giant from the 723 Bobier. Weighing 17% heavy and third in the world, it was the year 2000's version of the 1407 Wolf.
This seed is an excellent sample from the 935 gene pool. It's ancestry is 75% 935 Lloyd, including a world record and one of the best known 723 Bobiers.

Tom - joe and I have pondered crossing the 1096 and 1407. very similar pumpkins - both 3rd in the world that year, both similar shapes and % heavy, and both would have been a WR if grown 2 years previous.
