Long Beard's post down a few talked about the 1385 Jutras, and how good it looked. I have a 1180.5 Pukos and a 1096.5 Privitera that I got at an auction last month. They are a 1068x998 cross, the same as the 1385. However I got mine about half the price as the 1385, and there was another 1,300+ that was the same cross. The question is, being that they all are 07 pumpkins and the seeds have not been grown, what makes them more valuable? Is it strictly based on the weight, or is there something else. This could apply to many different seeds that all have the same cross. I know over time, the seed will sell itself based on performance, but initially, when looking at unproven seeds what indicators or things do you look for?

i think the biggest attraction is the fact that the 998 that was the pollinator for the 1385 grew the 1689 world record.

Pumpkin Pastor,

I agree with Steve on the "celebrity" factor with the current WR pumpkin. Another thing I would look at is the overall condition of the pollinator plant. How strong & healthy was the pollinator plant. Perhaps the growers of the 2 you have could comment. On the other 1,300+, I believe it might be a 1350 Wallace 2007 (1068 X 998).

hey pastor, how close is your place to the frenchman creek.I may have shot pheasants real close to your patch.I agree with steve - whats not to like in the 1068w and 998.6 cross with one of the plants being the world record.that seed has the most pizzaz/rock star status.however, that doesnt insure its the best seed out of the three mentioned.any one of those three seeds could be great or not great

We are about 4 miles south of the frenchman. There is a walk in hunting place on the frenchman on CR 29, it is across from the landfill. We have 320 acres of our own land and about 500 acres of neighbors land, plus we have a dog that will find any pheasunt within a mile. So you ever want to go hunting let me know, plus my wife is the best cook in the land.

Just let me know. We got 6 the other day. It goes for anyone, you ever want world class pheasunt hunting, and want to come to North East Colorado, let me know, I can make it happen. I can open my door and shoot them about every morning.
