All right....you get a variety of seeds. Now what does one cross with what? The seeds say that it came from a 859 this and a 1012 that and produce a 533 whoowoo. Another packet says that a 622 which and crossed with a 585 way produced a 1024 whichway! What is the secret to mixing the genetics? Is it all a crap shoot or what? Unless you know the field the pumpkin came from and the people who produced it how can you decide what to cross with what?

The secret is that there is no secret.

The best thing you can do, if you're interested, is to start researching the seeds you have on here. Just type the name of the seed into the search box and see what comes back. Remember that a seed should be a 50/50 mix of its parents. Which half it gets from which side is a crap shoot. The size of its parents does not always indicate what the potential of the seed itself is. Thats why many people seek proven seeds.

After you've learned enough to give you a rough idea of what to expect from each seed then you can decide which seeds give you the best shot of getting the qualities you desire. The possibilites are nearly endless.

Hi, for genetic research also try, join AGGC web site, go to the main menue, (although people have been having trouble joining lately) it takes a day to process your registration, it has pumpkins and what they were crossed with. Also Briansinsanity.com has pumpkins and what they were grown with.
