This year I plan on growing a sibbed 730 Stellpflug ( 887 Orr x 963 Zehr ).

I am also growing the

1178.9 Lovelace ( 998 x 1370 )
1207 Young ( 1370 x 1068 )
1041 McKie ( 842 x 1068 )
1404 McKie ( 998 x 1039 Leonard )

Just curious which one you would cross into the sibbed 730? I'm thinking 1207 or 1041.

Thats a tough choice Sam. I don't think you could go wrong with any of those 4. If you're going to have all 4 of those growing I'd just pick the strongest plant when you're ready to pollinate. If I have to pick one now, I'd probably go with your 1178.9 as my first choice, then the 1041 second, 1404 third and the 1207 last but not least.

Sam,

Why not do both! 1,207 Young on the main. Get a side vine
cutting going with some side vines and cross the 1,041 onto it
not many chances like this!

If it were me, I'd go with the 1178.9 Lovelace
The 730 has been a heavy producer, as much as 29% heavy, also thrown a few Squash in it's time, so you dont' need heavy, but you need color, and the 1178 should do that.
Unless you want Squampkin, then I'd go with the 1041. and that could be scary.

Sam, the 730's were a bear to germinate, i hope yours pops for you. Im a big fan of the 887.....i say go 1041 and grow a pumpkin that has no cavity......solid meat!

I'm with Scott - breed rocks. 1178 is the next best choice if you want to keep the color somewhat decent, and hopefully keep it fairly thick.

Sambo sign me up for a 730 sibbed x 1041 cross.
Are you using the 730 sib Beachy cross?

the rarity of 730 x sibb is not an issue. I dont know which 730sibb he is using, but I have hundreds of them from several different crosses.

I say 1207 over the 1178 only because of the 1662 pollinator.

I like the 1178.

Self the sibbed 730 for a couple/few generations...
then ask your same question with the hottest seeds you have at that time(preferably another purified line).
It's the commitment to the plan that's the biggest decision. BF

I dug out my Stellpflug seeds, and I have 2 730's, I know they were tough ones to germinate, But I'll bring them to Niagara with me, and give them a go. Who knows, better than sitting here

Sam, any of them cross's you did this year will work, hell even your last years would work aswell, you have made some very fine cross's over the past couple years thats for sure! any of them will go good with that 730.
