dave, STEVE, I know that curiosity killed the cat, but here goes?!??! What got the 1231 planted more than the 997, or 947, etc.? Is it name recognition, marketing, availability, or is the 1231 better than the others? What are the possibilities of a new 1446 x 1420 cross (and reverse), or an older 845x898 cross, producing as good, or better? I have read over and over that each seed will carry it's own traits, but who says the next combination of traits might be better!!! Not meaning to demean any of the incredible folks who grew these, just thinkin!!! Sorry bout this thinkin thing, as it usually gets me in trouble!! LOL Peace, Wayne

The 947 Hunt has produced up to 1355#. It probably hasn't been widely grown, especially since it only had about 70 seeds.

Wayne, I think name has a big part in how many seeds hit the dirt. I think the fact that the reverse cross 998 Pukos did so well that the 1231 got a lot more attention.I have the 997 seed and have givin it some consideration. The problem is that there are 100's of crosses out there that have great potentual but never see dirt. You pretty much have to grow your own to prove it. Now what one of mine will I grow hmmm maybe a 1302.

people equate success with success.
just as in life we tend to go with a successfull product over a never heard of or seldom used product.
does not matter if its horse raceing, datona 500, mountain climbing or horse shoes and hand grenades.
given a choice we will go with a familiar name over a name we dont hear much about, and why not.
their success is what we are hoping to duplicate, by planting their seeds we are hoping some of that skill and success will be carried over by planting their seed.

thats just the way it is
