What was the heaviest pumpkins grown to chart(not the biggest necessarily) from the top 5 to 10 seeds in the world today? Anyone have this info anywhere?

Brooks,

Al Eaton sent a list of the repaeat mothers of the top 100 Atlantic Giants of 2007. I quote verbatim:

"The 100 AG's on my worldlist were produced by 57 "mothers". The breakdown is 17 repeat mothers that produced 60 AG's and 40 single mothers that produced the rest. These "repeat mothers", having produced at least 2 AG's for the top 100 list deserve a special status in my view. Since there is much speculation and debate about which is the best current seed, I would like to add my findings on that topic."

Here is Als list:

1. 1068 Wallace
# of AG's: 9
Avg. wt.: 1438
points by # of AG's: 18
points by avg. wt.: 17
total points: 35
overall rank: 1

I will continue with the remainder with just the numbers.

2. 998 Pukos: 10, 1370, 20, 12, 32, 2
3. 664 Liggett: 3, 1385, 6, 14, 20, 3
4. 1407 Wolf: 2, 1429, 4, 16, 20, 4
5. 1231 Pukos: 5, 1329, 10, 9, 19, 5
6. 1450 Wallace: 3, 1372, 6, 13, 19, 6
7. 1308 McKie: 2, 1407, 4, 15, 19, 7
8. 723 Bobier: 3, 1348, 6, 10, 16, 8
9. 1370 Rose: 5, 1261, 10, 5, 15, 9
10. 985 Werner: 2, 1357, 4, 11, 15, 10
11. 1502 Wallace: 4, 1270, 8, 6, 14, 11
12. 1446 Werner: 2, 1328, 4, 8, 12, 12
13. 1005 Werner: 2, 1305, 4, 7, 11, 13
14. 1228 Jutras: 2, 1261, 4, 4, 8, 14
15. 1093 Hunt: 2, 1260, 4, 3, 7, 15
16. 1229 Platte: 2, 1257, 4, 2, 6, 16
17. 805 Pukos: 2, 1246, 4, 1, 5, 17

To continue with Al's assessment:

"Please note that the decimal pounds have been dropped and, where the points were tied, I favoured the mother with the most offspring. Ranking the repeat mothers this way tells one story but, to give the best picture of rank, mothers must be grouped by year."

2006:

1.1450 Wallace and 1308 McKie--tied at 19--5 each
2.985 Werner: 16
3. 1502 Wallace: 14
4. 1446 Werner: 12
5. 1005 Werner: 11
6. 1093 Junt: 7
7. 1229 Platte: 6

2005:

1. 998 Pukos: 32
2. 1407 Wolf: 20
3. 1231 Pukos: 19
4. 1228 Jutras: 8

2003:

1. 1068 Wallace: 35
2. 664 Liggett: 20
3. 1370 rose: 15

"There were no repeat mothers from the years 2004, 2002, and 2001. This is a look at the relative power of the 17 repeat mothers on my 2007 top 100 list. The 40 single mothers are well worth noting too, but some of them could be "flukes". The odds are quite small that any of the above 17 are flukes and, therefore, this list should be a good tool to help growers choose seeds for the next year."

Good info Dude, but you didn't read the question. Brooks was refering to heavy to the chart pumpkins only!

I read the question. I think one can assume that his answer lies in Al's data.

If I understand the question correctly you want to know of the top 10 seeds what is the heaviest progeny from those 10 seeds. I haven't gone through all the progeny of the top 10 seeds just becuase there are too many. I was looking for the same info earlier this winter. I looked at the top 10 seeds all time and their top 10 or so progeny. Here is what I came up with.

First the top 10 seeds all time in order:
1068, 723, 998, 1370, 1231, 842, 805, 664, 1097, 845

Top 5 heaviest(%OTC) progeny from these seeds:

1218 Liggett (+%19.64) - 664 x 778 Liggett
1446 Eaton (+%19.34) - 842 x 1301
1342 Krug (+%17.86) - 1231 x 1334
1193 Vader (+%17.12) - 1097 x 1236
1407 Wolf (+%16.59) - 723 x 1180

Tom B mentioned the 1407 Wolf as going quite heavy to the charts. Have any of the 1407 x self crosses repeated this trait? thanks KathyT

OK, maybe id didn't put the question right, sorry guys, here's what I meant.

Take the 998 Pukos, its gotta be in the top ten best seeds grown I'm sure.
Now we all know that it grew the 1689 for the biggest pumpkin, but what Id like to know is, what was the heaviest pumpkin to chart that was ever grown from a 998 Pukos and how heavy did it go? The 1689 wasn't the heaviest pumpkin to chart grown from a 998 pukos, I'm pretty sure it weighed right to what the charts said it would weigh.

Same with the 1450 Wallace, the biggest was the 1566 Redonis that was grown from this seed. What is the heaviest pumpkin to the chart that was grown from the 1450 Wallace and how heavy did it go?

You'll have to go the the AGGC and start digging. Ron's info is great, but only two on that list were grown from seeds on the all time top 10 list.

If you want heavy the 1334 Daletas has really produced quite a few over by 18 to 20 percent. It has not grown any real monsters but if you get the right seed out of that pumpkin look out as I think it could really produce a monster pumpkin.
