Well, I humble myself. I know now I have done practically everything wrong.....The pumpkin seeds are in the bathroom with a space heater at 80 degrees. for at least a week and ...nothing. I was told by someone here to put them in 1 gallon pots and and then set them out in the patch in june...I have now learned this is soooooo wrong. I need to file the seed and start on a paper towel in a warm area. Then transplant to pots then put out into the patch...I'm learning but now have no seed....help. ....Floyd.

If you're looking for seeds I'll let you have some of mine if you just send a SASE bubble pack to:

Matthew Isom
2361 Banyonwood Ave NW
Salem, OR 97304

I've got:
937.5 Isom 07 (1446.5 X 998.6)
395 Isom 06 (955 X 998.6) this was grown in 36 sq. ft.

Others, too, if you know what you want

P.S. The easiest way to start seeds IMO is to fill two milk jugs with hot, hot water, put them in a Coleman cooler, and put your seeds in there (soaked for a couple of hours first)

Dont be to sure about giving up yet. Give the seeds another 5 days and see what happends. If the soil is really dry, add 1/2 tbps of water over the area of the seed. Some seeds take longer and at 80 deg ambient air temp, they will take longer to sprout.

Yeah, the paper towel method is the way to go. It may not be better as far as effectiveness goes than soak/soil but the benefit is that you can see that germination was successful prior to putting in dirt. Less nail-biting while waiting for seedlings to put. Have a look at this GVGO tutorial http://www.gvgo.ca/articles/rivington_germ_tut01.html.

Generally once the seeds germinate and in soil, if the temp stays at 85 +-5, they will break dirt in 2-3 days. Don't over water. I use a 1 oz. shot glass filled with warm water after putting the seed in the dirt and thats all the water you need until you see the plant break dirt. Then I give them a moderate watering.

When you go to transplant into the patch, soak the plant with water until it comes out the bottom. This will help hold the soil together and minimize the disturbance to the roots. Don't worry about being too wet as once it gets in the soil, the water will be distributed all around the seedling.

What I like about the paper towel method is that it gives you a look at the tap root condition. sometimes a seed will start with a clubfoot formation . This is an undesireable trait that spells nothing but trouble. You want a straight root bud that will go deep and put out a uniform sideroot pattern. Jordan, I appreciate the tip on soaking the plant good as yuo place it in the garden, This was a problem last year

I wouldn't write off club roots. My personal best came from a club rooted 1370 Rose. The fastest growing split was from a club rooted 845 Bobier.

Hi everyone, I apologize for not responding earlier but I'm still figuring out the computer. I think I put my request for seeds and advice in another area. Matt, thank you for the offer of seeds. I saw your reply once and then lost it. I just found these responces tonightbut this is where I am at now. Thank you brian from waterville NY for some seeds. I filed the edges and soaked theM in 10% peroxicide and 90% water for a day. Then into the cooler with hot water and in a few days they germinated. !! Great news yeah? I had a nice little root showing and put them in small pots at 85 degrees and am struggeling to get them out of the potting soil. I am very frustrated on the germination part and I wonder if I should be doing it at all. I will say this.. my patch is sweet as far as I think. I've got alot of compost and well rotted horse manure in there. Also, gypsum, molassis all fluffy with a sandy base. If I was a pumpkin I would want to be in there. Frank' thanks for the seeds on their way. I think I'll be fine if I can just get something IN the patch. Floyd

As far as a club footed root.... no they were fine but I dug up one of the plants and the root was going straight down (good?) but it had browned and looked not so good. I reburried it just to see but not feeling so good. Floyd We will see. Smile, I will figure this out..
