how can I tell if the pollintaion took is it just a matter of waiting a few days?

It will stay shiny and start to grow..not over the hill till it's larger then a basketball....you'll be pretty sure it took then...turns dull and starts to rot if not sucessful pollenation.

all you can do is wait. a good sign is when it gets large enough to lay down on its on cuz of weight...between 4 and 6 days. that saying, it still can abort after that until over basketball size. treat every pollination down the line after your first as if it was your keeper. decide later on which one to cull if they all take.
