Looks like I'll be planting the 1068 Wallace as my one competition plant for the year. Perhaps I can also create a greatly desired cross at the same time. Just looking for some idea's. No doubt there is many different seeds already about with the 1068 as the mother. Maybe self pollination would be a good option? Or a more modern seed?
Some seeds I have that may make a good cross are:

1407 Wolf
1104.5 Hester
712 Kuhn
1081.5 La Rue

I'm guessing someone would really like something crossed into the 1068, I could get it done.
I have a stack of seed all pre 2006. I'm a few years out of touch, so perhaps something older.
I'll be starting 10th of October.

A good discussion anyway...

Tough call. 1407, 712 and 1432 would all be good choices in my opinion.

Just a suggestion...Maybe a 1008.4 Reiss(801.5 Stelts X self). I wish there were some progeny of this seed to go by though.

227 Leland(723 Bobier X 1370 Rose) could be a very good pollinator for the 1068 Wallace.

712 Kuhn. It was the pollinator of the 1370 Rose. It is different from the "usual" crosses and had big and heavy offspring.

Thanks guys for responses. Open to ideas. I like the 905 Totftness, I have the seed also. Perhaps thicken the 1068 with a little more 898?

hey you

I like the 712 kuhn too. That would be a unique cross with some serious potential.

I dont know if you have any, but a 1301.5 eaton, or a 1236 eaton. 1104.5 hester sound good to, the reverse cross. When al eaton crossed his 842, with his 1236 it grew him a 1301.5. So crossing in the reverse cross can be very succesfull.
