it would be interesting to see a compiled list of the seeds that have grown at least five pumpkins over 1000 lbs and which of the seeds has the highest average percent heavy totals. i would imagine the 898 is top of the list and the 1041.5 is in the mix somewhere in the top 5. has anyone ever did a list of the best percent heavy producing seeds of all time.

also will everyone list seeds that produced over 8% heavy this year. i am trying to get a feel for what seeds to grow next year and i want to stay on the percent heavy crossing for awhile.

my 1147 shenoha 2008 pumpkin was estimated at 994 lbs making it 15.4% heavy and was grown off the 1041 mckie.

I don't know if they will let you into the AGGC.. you can snoop around there and find out all the info you need. Some fruits that have gone big & heavy from the 07 stock are the 1385, 1689 Jutras, 1207 Young. If you have a 1119 Mcmullen, you would be a fool not to plant that along with a 1248 Ford. If you need any these seeds let me know. I don't want any excuses next year

george, i used to be a member to aggc but never re-upped a couple of years back. the 1385 i will grow if it germinates. the 1207 young i will keep in mind. if you got an extra...cool, i will take it. would like to do a 985 werner...you got one extra of those?

but i am really looking for in this post is some dark horse heavy seeds. newly produced 1000 pound plus pumpkins that go heavy....like 10 to 20 % heavy. just looking for people to post heavy genetic seeds from 2008 successes.

Milford

milford, CT,

This my opinion but I feel it is valid. When judging % heavy I draw a line at 1000lbs. Many pumpkins under 1000 lbs can be 10 % heavy or more. When a pumpkin over 1000lbs goes 10% or more over I get more excited. It is much more difficult to be over the chart when the fruit is over 1000 lbs. So a 10 % heavy 1200 lber in my way of thinking is more intrigueing than a 14% 600 lber. Just my opinion but it has worked so far for me. Mark

milford, CT,

BUT..you can't ignore a 22% heavy fruit regardless of the final weight...that's a thick pumpkin!!! Mark

Tenino, WA.

Take a look at the La Rue 1112 from 2006. It was 25% heavy it also produces very heavy pumpkins. The AGGC has four of its off springs listed one I know went heavy does not have any estimated weight listed the other three are 14%, 18% and another 18% over the chart. As far as I can research the 14% over has been its lightest off-spring. The 1112 was out of the 1312 Sperry X the 1173 Macari
