Did anyone do a 1385 Jutras X 1161 Rodonis or reverse this year? Both produced heavy with good shapes.

Thanks

Logan

Steve what are the 1385 x 1566 crosses, i do not have aggc, it dosen't seem like the 1566 has done as well as the 1161 which is odd since it is the same cross but i just wanted to see what they were and how the parents did.
Good recombination cross I thought more people would do it.

Thanks

Logan

Logan, 1209 Kuhn +15.86% this one is a beauty. I talked to Jim and it didn't have a real good seed count, so I don't know if you will find this one. 778.5 Peters +9.68% this one had a lot of green color to it. BTW, they are not the same cross. they are the reverse cross. the 1566 was planted a lot. 3-900lb+ 1-1000lb+ 6-1100lb+ 2-1200lb+ 1-1568lb pumpkin. I would say that is one hell of a 1st year. The 1161 only had two pumpkins listed 1521.5 and 1208 I suspect that the 1161 will be planted a lot next year.

logan,
here are reasons i too like that cross. if all goes well, i will make the cross both ways this year. this infor was from a previous post on 11-9.

1161 rodonis
...it weighed 11.3 heavy
...it produced 1521.5 werner that went 12.6 heavy
...the cross of the 1161 is (1231 pukos x 1450 wallace)
...the same 1450 plant that grew the 1566 rodonis that
went 9.6 heavy

1385 jutras
... (1068 wallace x 998 pukos--plant that grew the 1689)
...fantastic first year out across the books

if both germinate, they will be crossed and on paper they are similar mirror images of each other with 845 x 898 genetics on one side of both seeds and (1420 x 1446) on the other side of both seeds.

if it can happen, i would like to cross the 1385 x 1161 and 1161 x 1385 and cross those two seeds the following year.

Logan, the pollinator of the 1209Kuhn was Jim's 852. The 852 was 10% heavy and was harvested for a Sept. 5th weigh off.

Logan,Check out NHGPGA.org for a video of the 852 being dropped from a 50' crane into a swimming pool.

hope it dose well, did you get my bubble for your 1147?
If you do get both to germinate and all goes well, do you mind if i call dibs on a couple of the seeds from both of the crosses?

I thought the same thing, 1161 looks like it might even do better than the 1566 by what it produced this year if a little more people were to grow it.

Other seeds that look good
1500.5 Revier (985 Werner X 1207 Young) 1207 went +9%
1041 Solid fruit that go heavy
I also like the 664 Liggett dose well in crosses im thinking if it were to be crossed with a 1041 you could get a big pumpkin with a good shape that would go heavy.

and oh yea, if the 1385 x 1161 and the 1161 x 1385 are made by myself and they successfully produce seeds, you are first on the list next year logan. and if there is good seed counts in them, everyone here at bp.com will also have dibs on them as well.

i have multiple 1161s and i have a 1385 coming from eddyz from the gpc auction in november and i am going to purchase one more 1385 this year at an auction to give me the best chances out of the gate to make this cross happen in case of a failed germination of a seed. i really think this cross has the chance to at least maintain the 1385 potential and hopefully it strengthens the genetic line for greater potential. on paper you have the f. 1068 and m. 998 from the 1385 and the f. 1231 and m. 1450. mirror images with just enough variation on the same genes. and those 4 above seeds were the 4 top producing seeds for 2007 10 year ranking on the aggc meaning these 4 had the highest average weight for their top 5 produced pumpkins in 2007.

i imagine their are quite a few others who will be making this cross in 2009.

That could be an excellent cross Shazzy. I thought the 1161 Rodonis might have very good potential, before it ever hit the dirt.
