I croosed a couple of plants this year which I believe Have very good genetics. But unfortuneately after a very wet week where we had 6+ inches of rain if I remember the amount correctly. One of my fruit got a sag line and a very small hole in it.
This was the rainiest growing season that I can remember. I am nervous about gowing seeds from either of these fruit because of the sag line. But, on the other hand the amounts of rain were extraordinary, and the genetics are excellent. Would you give them a try if you only have room for four plants? thanks Kathy

Kathy, you know I'm pretty green in years of growing experience...But my advice would be to throw in a 1129 (1225Jutras X 998.6Pukos). This fruit took our season well.In fact it was the only fruit I had that didn't split the stem due to all the rain we had. Also made 1420Larue X 998.6 Pukos cross. They will both be in the MePGO seed giveaway.Theres just too much good seed around to take any more risks then one has too. Especially with all the hard work we put into these patches. Good luck in 09, Edwin.

Chances are the progeny from the same seed will give you a somewhat different shape everytime you grow it.
Seeing as how you crossed it ,I wouldn't be too worried about it unless the parent seeds have a history of more than normal dmg fruit.
I guess if you were a mad scientist purist you wouldn't grow out the seed if either of the parent plants or fruit had a problem.

Green Edwin, don't be so modest! Edwin was about 1.5 lbs from taking the state of Maines giant pumpkin record and he was pretty close to taking the squash record.
Edwin, have no doubt, that seed is going into my pumpkin patch. The squash will as well if you are sending them out. That squash was gorgeous!
Good luck to you as well Edwin, see you in the fall.
Thanks Ron.

Kathy, its likely that the anaerobic conditions you described caused an interruption in respiration and photosynthate storage which resulted in sag line developing. There should be only a very little on no effect at all on the future generation.
